PAS Pump Noise

Featured Replies

Hi

Wonder if anyone can help me?

Well got the engine sorted and really pleased with the outcome. Engine runs great and first indications are positive. Fuel economy very good - almost 65mpg cruising at 70mph.

Next problem......I have a very noisy PAS pump. Tried to bleed the system 3/4 times but at times the pump has a loud clacking/ticking noise. If steering turned from lock to lock or if the revs are increased the noise sometimes disappears?

Anyone else had the same problem? Any suggestions?

Check that the one way drive in the alternator pulley is working correctly and not seized solid before you condemn the PAS pump.

Yes checked that first. Used the old stethoscope on the pas pump and you can hear it clattering away! Managed to find a new pump at our local motorfactors for £97+vat and surcharge. So should only cost £120 and fluids.

Just need to bleed the system again which seemed to take an age last time!

Most systems self beed when you turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.

All sorted. I need a new pulley wheel though. The vibration in the original steering pump has damaged the pulley wheel mounting holes.

Noticed some oil at the bell housing so looks like the rear crank oil seal has failed! Anyone changed this seal? Any info gladly received!
