My car loves summer :) ...

Featured Replies

Been on the road all day running family about...

197 miles, just over 7 hours driving resulted in 40.3 mpg *indicated*...

This was mixed over motorway, A and B roads with 3 passengers for half the journey.

All in all, couple that with a lovely sunny day, I'm a happy man :)

That's pretty good.

I'm finding it hard to get above 47 at the mo.

But that may be due to short journeys 15m each way and a right foot made of lead :)

TBH in recent months mine has struggled to get 34mpg average... to the point I started to think something was wrong with the car...

Perhaps the good run has given it a "clear out"

Not bad mate - I managed 51.3mpg average on a 60 mile trip to Camber Sands and back (walking the dog) :)

today on the way back from milton keynes i managed 50.1mpg average on the 80mile trip home. that was mainly motorway, and some 50mph sections, but also some slow moving in traffic and getting back up to 60-70. was rather suprised, as previously hadnt seen it above 47mpg, and that was really being gentle on the throttle!

Lol i dont see above 35/38mpg near seen 45+ i am running only 95 octane thou

I'm only running 95 Lee...

How are you getting 50+? mine was "making progress"

My car has done around 7000 miles now, and i always use shell v power, which I find normally gives better returns than normal. I think today I had good conditions though, no wind, warm afternoon/evening, and didn't go above 75mph much because of traffic. Sometimes I struggle to get any higher than about 43-44mpg on the motorway, even without much traffic and driving carefully, and other days I can be fairly heavy on the right pedal, doing 75-80 all the way and still see 42ish. Maybe my car was just optimistic today, but it's gradually been getting better and better

I have ran my car on shell v-power from day one, I struggle to see above 25/30mpg around town, on a good run at a constant speed of 70mph I'd probably get between 40-45mpg never have I seen any higher than 45mpg in my one year of ownership

you're not driving it fast enough Damo ;)

Had baby on board so my enjoyment was curbed for the greater good :)

Early morning this week has seen the best economy I've seen on my Passat and the TSi.

It's because it's warm enough to get the engine up to temperature quickly but not hot enough to need aircon on. On top of that I don't need the fan on high or the heated seats on.

30 mile run up the M1 this morning with cruise set at 70mph and then 7.5 miles through 40/30mph limit with roads clear. Passat did 60.1 mpg on the computer. That's the highest average figure I've seen since it was new 20 months ago.

Cheers

If I could get that all the time I'd be pushing 900 miles on a tank. But unfortunately traffic was busy on the way home, I had aircon on and I kept up with traffic in the outside line so only 51mpg.

Still not bad for 170bhp 260lbf but VW did remove £24k from my bank account for the privelege so over 3 years/50k miles a vRS with it's far lower depreciation wouldn't be that different I bet.

The fuel computer runs between 3 and 5% high depending on type of driving, on motorway driving it's quite accurate.

Running a car in through winter is bad too - takes ages to warm up and using all the heaters etc - my worst mpg is in the winter with short joruneys, getting another 80miles per tank for city driving now.

Weekend and bank holidays/days off see longer journeys and a lot better mpg :)
