Fault codes after replacing electric power steering pump on Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

I'm just wondering whether anyone can help me. My electric power steering pump went wrong on my Fabia 1.4 X reg about a month ago. I bought one from the local scrapyard. Unfortunately they couldn't tell whether it was in working order or not. I replaced it and guess what it didn't work. So before I have returned it I was told that I should check all the wiring because quite often it was not the pump which fails. I disconnected the ECU and the instrumental panel and checked all the wiring between the instrumental panel and the ECU, ECU and the pump and between the pump and the instrumental panel. Everything seemed ok so I reconnected everything and realised that from that moment I couldn't even start the engine and four more fault codes appeared on my fault code reader but on the instrumental panel only the power steering pump sign showed. The codes are the following: 18044 missing message from air-bag controller, 18058 missing message from instrument cluster, 18045 missing message from electric load, 17978 engine start blocked by immobilizer. I double checked everything and everything seemed fine. I returned the pump to the scrape yard and I bought another one from ebay which has been tested. After I have installed it the power steering pump sign disappeared but I still couldn't start the engine and the four fault codes still exist. Any idea? Thanks

What happened that triggered the immo? With all the other faults listed, it sounds like the communications between modules is really confused. Sure you have it all back together as it should be?

Sometimes a full reboot of all the electronics will help..... other times it hurts... To reboot all the electronics, you disconnect the battery, short the leads together such that any charge left in the modules bleeds off ... re-connect the battery and pray.... by the way, Skoda would probably frown on this re-boot idea. They would contend it is not needed.

Hi thanks for your reply! Yes, I'm sure I have it all back together. I'm just worried that with the re-boot I would damage the very sensitive ECU if it hasn't been damaged already?! Thanks!
