I'm always really grateful for the advice I can get from this forum so I'm hoping you won't let me down with this one. I've searched various threads but i think my problem is different.

I don't do a lot of motorway driving so I haven't really noticed this problem, but on a trip to London (from Cheshire) it became a little alarming.

I drive a Octavia TDI Mk 2 08 plate

When I push it over 70 mph I get a slight banging noise coming form the engine compartment, I've decided it's speed dependant rather than having the throttle depressed. It starts at around 70mph, but stops if you dip below 70. More interestingly it stops if i follow someone closely (not really a long term plan!). So I'm guessing it's something flapping or moving at speed, I've looked for loose trim but it's tricky to put my finger on what it is. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Incidently, at Christmas my bonnet release cable broke and I had it fixed (I think they remove the wing to fix this, so could be possible). it's hard to pinpoint how long this has been occurring.

I often see engine under trays flapping on cars on the Mway and I've read of people on here losing them after work on their car so might be something to check.

Thanks for the reply, I think it could be that too. I gave it a bit of a wobble when I pulled over at the services. I'll check it out
