We've got two Octavia's, a 10 plate 1.8 TSI and a 61 plate 1.4 TSI. Will they take the same oil (both on variable servicing)? If so, what?

Should do - Skoda suggest 5W30 for fixed and 5W40 for variable. Both oil good in both engines iirc

The 1.8TSI needs an oil meeting spec VW 504.00 and the 1.4TSI one meeting 503.00 or 504.00. Both specs are Longlife oils needed for variable service intervals. There is a list of VW 504.00 oils in the thread below:
