Insurance cost for Shark remap on 1.9 Octavia

Featured Replies

My plan had been to buy a 1.9 Octavia, and Shark remap.

My insurance for this vehicle would be pretty cheap (£335), having driven 25 yrs without a claim.

Add a remap and suddenly it shoots up by to about £600 amongst all insurers.

Yet, a 170bph standard car (VW Golf 2.0 GT Sport) adds only £20 more than a 1.9 Octavia.

Doesn't make much sense to me.

What do you pay in extra premium for your remapped car ?

Thanks folks, but did a search of the site, and answered my own question

That's because the two cars aren't that different in insurance groups - add modifications and the group system might aswell not exist - it all depends on how much of an extra risk that extra power would be considered, depending on their past claims for modified cars.

Speak to a specialist broker like Brentacre, Adrian Flux or Chris Knott - their underwriters have more dealings with modified cars, and so you'll be able to get a cheaper quote :)
