my 98 pickup is having a few issues @ the moment,

1). been that the rev counter either doesn't work or runs backwards,from the redline back round anti-clockwise....very strange,

Any advise on reasons this could be happening would be greatly appreciated..

fill us in with a recent history of events, repairs, tweaks or maintenance.

could be the altenator on its way out, the diesels run the rev counter from it, check for a broken wire from the altenator too it runs across the front past the starter and up to the loom on the ns.

The truck has a new alternator fitted..

No recent events taken place recently,have only owned the truck for a matter of weeks & it didnt work when i bought it.

When you start the engine the needle moves as if its working,as if its going to idle-Then nothing it doesnt work...

Then when it feels like it,it might just work for 30 seconds in reverse then just not work again....

I have owned the truck 5 weeks & its probably done this to me 4 times in the the 5 week owned

Will check wiring tomorrow for any damage,Cheers

judging by the symptoms, my bet is on the rev counter electronics.

get the dash panel insert out and have a look on both sides of the PCB.

use a magnifying glass.

if you're lucky, some obvious cracks or burns might be visible.

if not, you need a new panel.
