Do Superbs sell?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I'm going to replace my superb soon, but I'm not sure what to do with it. It's an 05 tdi Elegance Auto in silver. Top condition bar a scrape on one wheel. Full leather with all the toys.... And 250,000 miles...

Anyone have any idea what value to place on it? I've consulted the parkers app but I think the figure it suggests is a little optimistic.

I may p/x it but if there's a likelihood that it might sell privately then that would be my preference.

P.s. this genuinely is not an advert for sale... I will renew my green status and stick an add in the classified section when the time comes.

I used "used car expert.co.uk but could only find a response for a 2.0ltr petrol which came out at £1646-£1995.

Hope it helps.

Out of interest 250k on the auto box... have you been doing fluid and filter changes on it or is it still sealed? Mine only has 60k on it so am wondering which way to go.

Thanks Danny, everything helps!

Jimbof - yep regular fluid and filter changes. I would strongly recommend getting it done. My local dealer charges around £100 which is about the same as a local gearbox specialist who has also done it a couple of times for me. I also always put it into neutral when sitting in traffic, which might help. I did have concerns the box was starting to fail last year but it turned out to be an engine mount. Cracking box if looked after.

Cool. At that price I guess by dealer you don't mean a skoda franchise as I would imagine convincing them to do fluid on a sealed for life would be tricky!

I do mean the local Skoda dealer. Although they stated it was sealed for life, my local (Hughes, Aylesbury) have always been happy to do it.

My Skoda dealer was very happy to change the fluid - in fact they stated they recommended a change every 40k miles for longevity and that in their experience auto boxes last a very long time if this is done. I plan on doing it every 60-80k, so next due at about 150k, same time as timing belt/water put/auxiliary belts, etc, so that's about £1000 service.

Charge was reasonable for the auto box fluid change (inc filter) - the oil and filter itself comes to over £100 retail, and this is only to be entrusted to people who have experience of doing this - definitely not a DIY job.

mmmmm, i find myself very interested, as a family car........ What do you think you might ask for it? I drove an a4 with the auto diesel and i do love an auto box. what size is it???? v6 at all??

It's a PD130. I haven't decided on a price yet but will put an advert up over the next day or so.

The 1.9 PD is the only engine fitted to this car which would make 250k miles. You've certainly had your money's worth.

What went wrong with it over that mileage?

rotodiesel.

Nothing too major...

The original suspension arms lasted until over 200k before starting to knock so I overhauled the front suspension. It's had the front cv joints replaced once and the boots I think 3 times. Both rear door locks have been replaced and an engine mount failed. Other than that it's been service items really.... Very regular oil changes and it's been garaged/pampered all it's life.

I am a great believer in the importance of running cars in gently, despite what the dealers say, and I'm sure th at is the key to this car's reliability. My uncle (who was the first owner) was very careful and I'm sure it's paid off!

Oh, I also had to change the hid bulbs as they were quite dim after 200k. Not the most fun car I have owned but certainly the most reliable and comfortable by a country mile!

Oh, and I've avoided many of the more common design-fault problems by doing the preventative fixes mentioned on here....

there was a 200k+ lower spec manual on autotrader for £1800, looks like it has gone, it was there friday

most 100k+ seem to be over £2k with higher specs .

Localy there is a 2004 54 in acar2go(aston clinton) 60k just over £5k.

(Elegance not sure what options)

What sort of MPG are you getting?

Thanks for that P&N.

My long term average is usually around 44mpg bit can be anywhere from 42-52 depending on the weather and journey.

Thanks,

We have been looking for some time, the current car keeps going but is tired and no toys, basic 306 1.9..

Been looking for an L&K Octavia and probably should have got the red one hughes had 08 40k 1.8 £7K.and ran that into the ground.

Though we would look at a Superb, the mk2 hatch are still a little pricy, hence looking at the Mk1

Suprised to find one so local at a decent price(hughes selection sometimes have them), and then yours might come along.

The Superb is probably a bit too big for dayto day but great for the longer runs, the boot not as practical as the hatch, but more about with the spec we want memory heated seats etc.might do for a couple of years.if we find a good cheap one.

Need to think about overall costs, we run two cars both mainly for convenience.

Not doing much mileage and getting 45ish out of the 306 on short runabout with the odd longer run.

Currently about £500 on the drive and £500-£600 fuel but no depreciation just repairs.

looks like one of these mk1 would be more, tax is higher with depreciation as long as nothing big breaks,

More thinking neede, but it is time for some creature comforts in our car.

I popped into Hughes yesterday and they had 3x Mk2 estates, a couple of yeti's and possibly an Octavia or two. The salesman did mention that a local garage often buys their trade-ins, so there may be a good source of used Skodas close by. He didn't say exactly where they were.

I've put an add in the forsale section for anyone interested.

Very tempted, but scared it might be on the verge of some big bills.( I will check the insurance later)

I think the local that takes the trade cars that hughes selection don't want, is Timotor on new street

http://www.timotorcarsales.co.uk/18278/timotor.htm

they often have octavias with higher miles/older than hughes like.

Ah ha, I thought it might be that place but couldn't remember their name.
