LED Boot Interior Bulb?

Featured Replies

The current luggage light' bulbs in the boot of my FL Octavia are about as much use as a glow worm in a brown bottle!

I want to replace them with LED ones however as they are type 501 (also known as w5w or Capless) and are mounted vertically in the housing I need some that shine sideways.

Can anybody point me to a suitable replacement?

I also understand that these bulbs, and all interior bulbs, are not monitored by the Canbus system. Is this correct?

Richard

Correct they do not need to be CANBUS, however at this price there is no point IMO getting non CANBUS ones

These are also suitable for the puddle lights in the mirrors and footwell lights if fitted.

You could try these. I hear they are very good.

I have 2 360 degree led,s in mine and work great. Got them off eBay as with all my others.

Thanks for the info.

I have ordered some like Gizmo suggested as the Superkoda ones are a bit dear by comparison.

Richard

Good choice and price

Whiter, yes. But are they significantly brighter?

Agreed the Superskoda ones are expensive!

Whiter, yes. But are they significantly brighter?

Yes. Certainly brighter

Typical Superskoda - complete rip-off ........

You will be fine with the ones Gizmo68 has posted :hi:

Don´t forget, you have 1 on each side of boot, most have 1 on the side or one on top

Don't tell me that - I just ordered some, along with these and these  . Oh well...

Also did the interior lights :)

Sorry mate but when you add the shipping costs to their already inflated pricing, they are fookin expensive and a fair few people on here have had less that satisfactory customer service. Hey, you've bought then now and I've hit "Buy it Now" on ebay in the past only to find the same thing for half the cost on the next page!

I went for these -

I was looking at those actually. Might get some for my next vrs.

Has anyone fitted footwell and under seat lighting to theirs?

So are the ones Gizmo posted gonna be brighter or dimmer than the ones Vectra posted? It's just that Vectra's look like there are leds all round it whereas gizmo's are just on one side, so i'm not sure what I should be aiming for?

And can either type just swap straight into both the boot AND the puddle lights under the mirrors, replacing the existing bulbs with no faffing??

Oh, and my motor is a '58 pre fl so is that gonna bring up any issues??

I have these fitted to the interior lights and they are better than the ones I linked to above, BUT ONLY FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTS - because you want the light to emit from 360°.

For the tailgate / boot, footwell (where fitted) and mirror puddle lights you only require the light to shine down (in one direction), so the ones with 4 SMD's on one side are much better (I have tried these in the interior lights and they are not as good as the 360°ones due to the light only shining one way, likewise the 360°ones are not as good in the boot or footwell as the others as you now have just 1 SMD opointing in the direction you require the light).

Hope that makes sense?

As for the puddle lights, yes the ones with 4 SMD's on one side fit OK - they do require a firm push into place as the holder inside the mirror is made from rubber, once in place they are perfect - and bright.

Pre 09 car's (so pre FL in the case on an Octavia) are also LESS problematic with SMD / LED's in some areas (Numberplate lights etc) so they will be fine.

I went for these - dearer than the bulb only, but cheaper than the Superskoda version

I got these and they work really well!!!

Hmmm, okay fitted one of the four led side lights in my door mirror puddle light today and just been out to see the difference....

Not an amaaaazing amount.

Admittedly it's a much 'cleaner' white light, not yellow at all, and I think it's a larger light spread, but not hugely different. Having said that, it IS only a puddle light and it's not supposed to be illuminating the world, and they only cost £1.49, so cheap & cheerful. :)

If you were a bit bored, or really wanted that white light then go for it, but it's not gonna change the world.

Nice little mod and good for fiddling around for the sake of it. Good to know how the mirror came apart for future reference.
