Newbie with Fabia after some help.

Featured Replies

Hi guys n gals,

Just picked up a Fabia 1.4 Classic, 2000, yesterday. On journey home, the temp gauge never got anywhere near the middle and its position depended on the outside temperature. I'm looking to replace the thermostat and have found one, can you tell me if this is right for the car please? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.4_2000/p/car-parts/car-cooling-parts-and-car-heating/cooling/car-thermostat/?209780020&1&f0a6d258a0ffdeda238f5b7153cac5220221e9ee&000325 I put the reg in and two came up, this is the only picture.

Or would my best bet be seeing my local VW Dealer?

Another thing I noticed is how under powered it is below 2750 rpm? Our 1998 1.4 golf has more guts. The Fabia really struggles with the hills where we live, down to 2nd gear just to get up them! Idle is erratic and lumpy too. Maybe same problem connected here?

As there is no MAF? on the 8v lump, would my starting point be the MAP sensor? In the history file, the Lambda was changed in 2005. Are these prone to failure?

YES, I do have VCDS and will check the car over when the wife has finished shopping and doing womanly things as they do.

Cheers,

Dan

I'd go to vw for the part. The last stat ecp sold me didn't seal properly...

Sorry, that first line was on my phone.

The last thermostat I got from ECP didn't seal and leaked all my lovely new coolant onto the driveway. They refunded the part, but not the cost of the coolant -_- Doubt they'd have given me back the cost of any labour if it was done at a garage. . . Went and got one from VW and all was well, cost a little bit more though.

I think they all idle a bit roughly, something to do with emissions I think. Not too sure on the rest of it though, sorry!
