Hi All

I know you a billion questions asked every week regarding re-maps, so I do apologise!

I've got a 2004 vRS, had 1 owner from new, full service history, and has 102,000 on the clock now. It had 92,000 when I bought it. The previous owner did 75% of these miles on the motorway, and I'm now doing the same as I do 500 miles per week.

As most of you probably know, Awesome now do TDi map's for £150 - which seems like an absolute bargain. I've been in touch with them to enquire, and they have told me that they're just generic maps, but safe on the original clutch. Ideally, I don't want more than 290lb-ft of torque as I want my clutch to last, and I don't want any dodgy torque spikes etc etc. Does anyone have any experience with these maps? What sort of BHP and torque figures will I be looking at?

I don't drive around like an absolute c*ck and rarely exceed 3000rpm. Most cases I shift up at 2000-2500rpm. When hammering it, which is probably once a week max, I exceed no more than 3800rpm on average.

I just don't want to blow my turbo, or ruin my clutch within weeks of having the map

Many thanks in advance guys!

Its a risk you run when getting any remap. I hear good things about awesome and I cant fault their service from what ive had from them. with it having 102k on the clock your clutch and turbo will likely be fragile shall we say and a remap will show any weakness fairly quickly. This said mine was on 85k when I remapped it and now its on 92k its still not slipping or missing a beat. I expected to replace the clutch quickly but thus far im left with money in my wallet still :)

Is yours mapped by Awesome Huxley?

I experience an Awesome map the other day, it was simply AWESOME, power cam on really strong. And the lad had had it for about 20,000 miles, it had a full Milltek exhaust and a FMIC.

He said he gives his car a really beating which he did with me in it, and only now is it starting to show signs that it may be starting to give a bit. For £150 you can't really go wrong either!

I'm tempted as I too don't drive like an idiot, would judt be nice to know that I'm getting the most out of what power is available and also quicker to overtake ;)

Well youve seen how mine pulls james that weekend at PPC ive been really impressed with it and cant fault it for £150. Mine only made 278lbs ft which is plenty enough so shouldnt be too bad on your car. Just dont boot your car below 2k if you get a map but having said that mine seems to kick in more around 2.2k

It is very tempting, and for £150 it's a bargain. I know everybody recommends shark, but they're about another £100 more expensive.

I have heard of people having some dodgy maps from awesome before, with torque spikes killing flywheels etc, which is why I thought I'd ask.

Since I've owned the car I've allowed 10 mins before exceed high revs, i never try and push it up a hill at very low revs (always been around 2k mark), and I leave it ticking over for a couple of mins after a decent length journey to cool the turbo down. So I look after the engine as much as I can. No idea how the previous owner treated it though. He hasn't done the paint work any favours as it's obviously been left under a tree with bird cack all over it. Marks in the paint :(

Southy, yours was very smooth - defo what I'm after. It's just guaranteeing I'll get one as good, as each car is different. If I go for awesome, I can get it done on 30th June. But a Shark one will have to wait a bit as they're a bit more and don't want to spend too much before I go on holiday and to Bug Jam ;)

Just get it done at awesome mate, they have a 30 day money back on them so if your not happy they will return it to standard for you.

I had a custom map at Awesome on my MK1 Fabia VRS and it was fab. TBH though if you're in Birmingham why don't you get in done at P-Torque and save yourself the trip?

does the £150 inc rolling road too?

Because p-torque is £100 more money?

Mine isnt Awesome no, I went R Tech as they had an offer on at the time :)

I suppose I can't go wrong £150, and I can get a refund if need be. Ideally, I'd like to get it on a rolling road to see what it's putting out and if there are any harsh spikes. I don't want an aggressive map, just a bit more power with a nice progressive curve. Would it be worth servcing the car before hand? and would it be worth getting a green panel filter or are these just a waste of time/money? I have heard few people saying there was absolutley no gain from running a green, K&N, pipercross etc panel filter.

I was actually told that the standard paper filters are better than those after market ones!

i bought this map from awesome but payed £200 about a year ago, ive not has a single problem since getting it and would definatly recommend getting it for £150. my car has been on a rolling road and made 179.10bhp and 290.01ft lbs of torque. i drive my car hard (really hard :p daily) and my flywheel has been fine. definatly worth the money for that map! and my power curve is good, no spikes or anything like that, i had it rolling roaded at another smaller tuning company and they couldn't fault my map at all.
