EML lighting up after turbo swap

Featured Replies

Hi again all,

Well I have now swapped my old KKK turbo over for a PD150 hybrid. I know have the EML light on. Let me run you through some brief history to see if the reason show sit's ugly head.

The car was mapped to circa 165bhp etc by Unit18 about two months ago where I also had the EGR delete done. The car ran perfectly ever since until the turbo died last week.

During taking everything apart I snapped the plastic lever arm on the EGR :wall: but figured this isnt too much of a problem as I've had the EGR switched off, or so I thought (when turning on it still moves the butterfly thingy). Could this be the reason for the EML????

I fitted the new turbo today will new oil feeds etc and did an oil change too. Now to get the oil to the turbo without it getting damaged I unclipped what I believe is the crank sensor near the oil filter so I could turn the engine over without it firing into life.

I cranked away for a few turns twice and then plugged the sensor back in.

I then started the car which was a bit lumpy to start with. Put this down to the above mentioned snapped EGR lever, opened it up fully and all seemed normal.

Took the car for a drive round the block and found it drives lovely APART from now it takes longer to spool up (could this be because of it being a 150 turbo??) and also when it does spool up you now get a more pronounced rushing air noise like my old petrol turbo used to do (is this normal????)

I know this is an essay but my car is my daily commute and needed on friday so any help will be a god send :)

the butterfly is for softening the engine shake as engine stops, not egr function. so eml isnt due to this i think

ah ok, thanks for eliminating that..... now for the others

im lost from there mate, modding aint my thing, making standard the best it can be is my forte.

I wouldn't run it far or hard with a PD150 Turbo if its mapped for a PD130 Turbo

They require a different boost/N75 Map to run correctly

oh cripes, ok, so need a new map then??? Could this be the EML problem then?

makes sense to me, and explains the late boost.

Well an adjusted map

If its requesting 1.3 bar from a smaller turbo, now its getting double and no fuelling to match!

(I'm sure its not double but alot more)

Ok so just plodding around with it will cause damage? Also the original map was done at unit18 which is 90 odd miles from me. Am I now stranded????

I wouldn't like to say in all honesty! Ring Ali in the morning and ask his opinion he will know better than me.

ah nice one, I work at Luton airport which is in Bedfordshire!! :)

it couldn't also be anything to do with the actuator at all?

Wouldn't of thought so as its all vacuum operated off the ECU as far as ! know, I am no expert though!

You need a obd reader to find out the fault.

You can run a pd150 turbo fine, will just have some lag. N75 needs adjusting to help reduce lag.

The pd150 will be flowing more air but doesn't mean it needs a remap. Just will be running a little learner. Won't do any harm. Stock files run lean anyway.

thats a huge relief, is it likely the EML is on because of the requested boost level not matching?

So just to confirm that even though my PD130 was mapped it wont do any harm to have a PD150 hybrid turbo installed??

It would normally put the car in limp mode.

Light my have thrown up from you cranking it over with crank sensor disconnected.

this seems to be what everyone is saying, so that is re-assuring.
