Welcome.

What about the aerial, what type is it?

Can you swap one from a friend to test?

Hi Mate,

It is the fixed type stuck to the roof at the back of the car. Not sure how they come off but the garage I bought the car from has tested it and says it is working fine. They also say that they tested all the radios on the forecourt and none pick up the AM signal so I am imagining that that this is a widespread problem. He gave me some crap about the signal getting weaker for the onset of digital but as I pointed out, every other car makers radio still work om AM signal.

I have also held in the button on the radio to check the signal on AM coming in and it is at the lowest it could be.

Cheers

I had the normal fat then thin aerial about 15" long.

We kept catching it on the washing line so replaced it with a short genuine vw one, still great reception on FM but i don't use AM much/

How did they test the aerial - it's a powered base on the antenna that boosts the signal but they are prone to water damage and the first sign is usually loss of reception. Have they tried a different head unit in the car to check and if that is just as bad have they tried changing the antenna?

They have told me that they tested the booster in the ariel and that it is working correctly. Sounds like it is a major problem because the guy at the garage told me that every car they had in the place had poor reception on am. I was wondering how many other people had this problem and what they had done about it.

Cheers.

I've also been having a problem with AM band reception (Radio Five) on the Bolero in my Yeti for a few months. Also having a water ingress problem in the boot well. Car has been with Skoda for three days in June and no fault found and an unwillingness to investigate the radio problem because "it's not a hard fault" and AM reception is poor in Edinburgh. I used to be able to listen without any problem.

Two days ago after heavy rain found more water and AM reception is not working at all.

After finding this thread I have realised the faults may be linked ie water leaking into antenna and somehow making it's way into boot well. Car is booked in again on 30th July.

Hello smed0070 and welcome along
