Rear Hatchback seal is very wet

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone can help?

When it rains and I open the rear hatch, the rubber seal is wet from the top all the way down and is collecting along the bottom leaving a small pool either side of the metal piece that the locking mech attaches to. I can't see where its getting in though. Its a 54 plate and I'm wondering if its just the seal that is tired and needs replacing? Has anyone else had this problem?

I know it's not the rear wash wipe because the seal is wet right from the top and all the way round. My inital thoughs that the window seal may be a possible culprit also.

Thanks for any help/advice

Just wondered if anyone has any ideas suggestions. It was really bad again this morning after all the rain last night :(

Us Octy 2 owners have the same problem too. I think it's the tailgate seal needs replacing. Not surprising after all the rain :(

Thanks for that. Is it a job you can do yourself?

Fitting a new seal round is very easy. No problems at all.

OK thanks again!

I took one of those bungee cords with hooks on the ends. Took the hook off, and stuffed the cord under the seal (there's a lip you can lift up) and that sorted it on mine. Bit of a bodge but it works.

Sorry to re-open this thread but I changed the seal the other day and guess what? - Its very wet again  :wall:

Just can't see where the water is getting in..

Anyone got any ideas??

could try drying it off then using a hosepipe over each part of the tailgate and checking as you go so you can try and narrow it down?

Does the rear wash wipe pipe not leak in the fabia pouring water into the wrong side of the seal?

Almost sure that it did in mine.

Need a helper/accomplished minion or similar.

Strip interior trim from hatch lid.

Sit in boot whilst minion sprays the back of the car with water.

If you've got spray on talc or similar, could put some of that on the exposed metalwork and see if tracks appear.

Ok Thnx for the replies. Still investigating!

My 54 reg Fabia has exactly the same problem. The water is getting in through a bit of trim at the top of the boot and dripping down onto the parel shalf. I've noticed the boot carpet is wet too. I may have the leaky rear wash wipe as well, but there's a definite leak at the top. The seal looks ok. I can see exactly where it's dripping from, but not how it's getting in.
