Sub box Ported or not

Featured Replies

I have a 12" sub box to go into my octavia what do you guys think of porting or not porting

If you get the resonant length of the port right, you can basically double your bass output by using one (both sides of the cone can move air). Get it wrong and it could potentially really screw up the sound quality. I once helped make a stack for a nightclub, and we got loads of design info of t'internet. Try a furtle on Google...

Depends on the sub going in the box to be honest. Many like a ported box, many don't. :speaker: My new JL 12w3s like a sealed box for a tighter punchier bass, and even though they're barely run in now, they do sound excellent! :D

sealed, much better in my opinion. much cleaner tighter bass, if you go for a ported box then you will get more sound from the sub but it won't be as deep or responsive

Depends what you want to achieve at the end of the day, if its SQ (as in quality of the bass sound) then i would suggest Sealed, and if its for SPL( Sound pressure levels) then most opt for Ported. Me personally i prefer the sound a bass driver gives through a sealed enclosure - but each to there own i guess. Oh and like the other guy said, choose ported you must and i mean must get the dimensions right, otherwise it will most deffo sound cack - not quite as strict for sealed(within reason)

I have a sealed box which is internally ported into 3 chambers...

Sounds the mutts!

What sub is it that you will be usuing? As some subs sound better sealed, and some ported. Personally, I prefer ported subs, as the bass is a lot deeper.
