DRL bulb replacement

Featured Replies

Not sure if its already been covered, but looking to change the DRL bulbs in my 1.8 tsi to a whiter light if that makes sense. Not wanting to go down the LED path with its associated canbus/warning light issues. I am in new zealand so any of the NZ owners know of any bulbs I can purchase locally? Also, how tricky a job is it.

Should have mentioned, its a FL model, 2012.

Its a very easy 15min job, but you will be struggling to find any bulbs. One option is MTEC:

some like them some dont. Pretty low light emission and quite bluish. Some overheating problems also reported.

Other than that, I have found these (not tested as no wolrdwide shipping):

After these your options are pretty much limited to going LED way..

Thanks for the links Laars. Too blue for my liking.

Are you sure that LEDs will trigger a CAN bus error? I know that number plate lights do, but I wonder if you might get away with these with LEDs fitted?

A blue bulb will produce a white light usually.. LED's will most probably produce an error. I have tried a couple of Canbus ones and gave up. If you get lucky, you can get BA15S Led's that don't throw error. New Octavia's are very picky on this.

What I ended up doing is to blue lamin-x my DRL/fog lights. They produce now white light permanently :giggle:

So if I just try my luck and buy a few dfferent ones locally, is there a generic spec for the bulb size , connection etc that I need to look for?

Its the same bulb type as in your reverse light and turn signal lights. P21W.
