Sounds like a burst front pipe

Featured Replies

Hi

I wondered if any of you ,have any experience of the prob i am having ?

My car is a superb 1.9td 2007 and is used as a taxi ! in the last couple of days it seems to have a developed

A kind of droaning noise . when car is ticking over sounds like a burst front exhaust pipe !

And in the past some peple have said to me " does your car have a burst exhaust flange "

but that was a while back and is usually only noticeable when car is running in a walled off area

And you are getting an echo off walls ! but last night i took car on a 90 mile run to go fishing

And on way back could hear a vibration when driving at 60mph and lower speeds

on stopping the car and giving it a few hard revs engine picking up ok but when lifting throttle pedal

There seemed to be tinkle kind of noise coming from under car that . that happened as engine

Returned to low revs,

Tried blocking end of ex pipes to test for leak, but exhaust pressure just built up as normal until it moved my hands

And no apparent leak . ! i removed engine covers to look from underneath and from above but could see no leak

Just wondered if possible baffle broken free inside exhaust and it is vibrating ?

Refuse to go Main skoda dealer in Aberdeen as rip off merchant and not good rep!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the car is down on power it could be an intercooler pipe most probably the one from under the radiator up to the turbo, next thing to check is the pulley on the altenator this can rattle and drone on trottle lift off, next check the radiator fan pulley again the bearing in the engine bracket can fail and it sounds like an earoplane to check this --- with the car idling using a cloth stop the fan if the engine noise changes remove the belt and check the retaining bearing ( this is the baby that caused me the problem for a long time)

Try the snorkel on the air filter box first, thats the plastic bit that turns the angle from the box to the tube secured to the front landing panel with 3 screws, after a few air filter changes it looses it seal.

I had a horrible kind of metallic tinkling sound on my 1.9 Toledo, which was the "one way hub" on the alternater drive pulley. Refurb of alternater fixed it.

Either your getting epically ripped off or im always get a good price! when i had my solid flywheel fitted i was charged £500 fitted, and that included the cost of the solid flywheel kit. this was from an independant garage though.
