Can oil temp be displayed on dash comp?

Featured Replies

Hi,

As per the topic can it be done?

I used to have a mk II vw scirocco gtx which had a similar comp as my vrs (don't have maxi dot :0( ) which would display oil temp... Trip, mpg etc.

I only ask as the water temp needle seems to get to 90 c in 5 or so minutes.... Surely the engine oil wouldn't bet at 90 c.

I'm only interested as my scirocco lived a very happy life mechanically (198k) when sold and I'm pretty sure letting the oil get up to temp before the obligatory thrash helped.

Thanks,

Rob.

i have a L & K Octy 2011 model and yes i have the oil temp available through the maxidot

Not sure how true it is, or even where I read it, but I remember seeing something that suggested that VAG cars are set to show 90 as long as the tenp is vaguely near that. Apparently it's to stop people complaining or worrying if their car starts running at 85/95/etc......

if you're on variable service then yes, if you're on fixed and you have a numpty dealer that doesn't know how to code it then no.

This was discussed recently on the GOLFMK6 forum.

Mike (holroyd) could get mine to show, suspect it's been locked down by the dealer :wonder:
