Bolero parking sensor question, but NOT about the display...

Featured Replies

...assuming this is the same for everyone, has anyone managed to work out how to get the Bolero to drop the volume when the parking sensors are engaged as it would on whatever stereo would by fitted originally? Is it a VCDS thing or is it not possible?

(This ISN'T anything to do with getting the display up, as that's a massive ballache and financially unfeasable.)

It is, but not sure in what combinations.

I did the coding for another Briskodian who retro fitted PDC with his Bolero and got the volume dipping (and OPS).

Press the music symbol button and the setting should be in that menu.

The combination I did that worked, i.e. enabled the volume to dip when reverse parking sensors were active was:

Bolero: 1Z0 035 156 F (factory fitted)

CAN Gateway: 1K0 907 530 S (Factory fitted)

Park/Steer Assist: 5J0 919 475 A (retro fitted)

This was an Octavia '08 Vrs LE.

Initially I couldn't find the PDC volume settings on the Bolero, but I didn't see the hard button with the music note on it which is where the settings are hidden. You might need to scroll down.

I'm thinking of building a thread where people can post PDC / CAN / HU combinations that work / don't work so it would be useful if you could add your controller P/N's so I can get it going.

HTH and Thanks.

Yeah, tried that and it's definitely not in there.

Is it possible that because you actually coded this that you might well have turned it on, whereas I just slapped the h/u straight into my '58 L&K and that was it, no fiddling? (FYI, I have factory fitted sensors, both rear AND front so surely it would be a bit odd for it not to 'see' them)

If you haven't had the Bolero coded yet, it is likely that it will not be able to perform to its fullest.

Find someone near you with VCDS and get them to have a look for a couple of beer tokens.

I won't guarantee that OPS will magically work though...

Yeah, got a bod who can do it, but they have no experience of stereos so they've already said they'd need to know where to look. (Never seen VCDS so I don't know what he's talking about, fullstop :))

Excuse my ignorance, but what dos OPS stand for, I assume it's ****** Parking Sensor, yes?

Optical Parking System (I believe) - basically the pretty pictures on the HU display as well as the PDC (Park Distance Control) beeps.

Select controller module 19 - CAN Gateway, go to 'Installation list' and select the correct controller for your HU (should be 56 - Radio: and it should already be selected).

Save this, and go to controller 56 - Radio and see what options are available. Most are pretty self-explanatory but my advice would be that if you don't understand it, don't change it.

Take screen shots of everything before you make any changes. Make one change at time, test it and then repeat.

Gradually you'll find out what works and what doesn't.

Save all this and go to controller 10 - Park Steer Assist (I believe that if it is at a different address, you have an older CAN and cannot have the OPS (as a rough guide).

Tweek settings in here for OPS, save and then go back to 56 - Radio and see if there are any other settings for OPD / PDC that have appeared as a result of changes made to the PDC controller.

I know this is not very specific or definitive, but the only way I can be certain of what you need to do is to do it for you...

Take a look here to see how VCDS could work and what it can do. Problem is that there are so many controller combinations (a bit like building a PC computer from scratch) that it is almost impossible to say 'do this' and have it suit everyone.

If your 'bod' is any good, it should be fairly obvious and pretty quick.

I've thought of a possible alternative to coding:

A line from the reverse lights (preferably at the front end of the loom) to the phone-mute input. (I admit I thought of this around 18:00 today, so it's not wholly thought out yet.) There would be no volume control, but the h/u would mute/pause so you could hear the beeps. Installing a mute line in the Quadlock (if you've not got a phone kit already installed) doesn't take long and the wire to go in the Quadlock is about £3 IIRC (that might have been for three though, it was a while ago I installed the phone-kit).

Please tell me if I'm talking bo***cks though.

One extra thing I just thought of: in order to get mine working on my estate, I had to first tell the car that it was a hatchback (there are two locations for this).

This worked, but gave me a picture of a silver hatchback (another reason to have a silver car?)

Once it was working, I thought I'd chance my luck & try switching it back to 'estate' and it worked and has stuck (complete with picture of estate car).
