Accelerator Problems

Featured Replies

I have a octy vrs 52 plate with 12,000 mls on,bought this car back in october but always had this problem or it might not be.The problem is when i accelerate i squeeze the the throttle down if i squeeze it down to the floor you can feel it hesitating but lift off to half throttle and thats where the full power comes in,so basically i can never go full throttle its always half way for all my power.yes i had the famous 17705 fault code which the dealer checked using the bulletin and replaced the throttle body but like i say i've had this problem from the beginning and with only 12,000 mls on surely it cannot be wear and tear on anything.I had it into the dealer last thursday to have coils replaced and no other fault code was present.

please can someone shine a very big torch on this

thanks gary

Your car has a 'fly by wire' (or 'drive by wire') throttle which operates the throttle valve potentiometer electronically via a position sensor integral with the throttle pedal. When you floor the throttle you are, in effect, just turning a switch on and leaving the engine ECU to sort out how best to give you full power. As you have found out, applying the throttle progressively gives a far better response and your car achieves full power sooner. Given that your engine delivers full power, and no fault codes are present, I think your car is normal in what it is doing.
