Hi all,

Sorry im new to this, i have just bought a new Octavia 1.8tsi and am thinking of getting it remapped, it only has 25 miles on the clock so i presume it will need running in first?

Are remaps a good thing, do they wear out anything? clutch / engine etc, bit nervous when spending alot of cash on a new car.

I also tow a van so am intrested in the torque a remap could deliver but I hear you get a lot of wheel spin towing?

Kind regards

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello JohnnyDee and welcome along

You're better of posting your questions in the releveant Octavia thread ;)

Welcome both and thanks, I will get use 2 it lol

Remapping is fine and will not damage the clutch o engine however i do not know what to suggest as the car has only done25 miles so i presume its a 12plate?? This will definatly void your warrenty. If that doesnt bother you make sure you use a reputable remapper and also get customer references where possible, hope this helps

Welcome to the forum.

Cant see why your front wheel drive car is going to wheel spin if your nose weight on the van (is that a caravan?) is correct and you use your gears correctly.

Crossing grass towing with the standard tyres might well be a different matter.

Surely must be worth seeing how your car does perform when you have used it for a while,

and surely it will tow a caravan within its tow limit quite fine at 50 or 60 mph without the assistance of a re-map!

As the peeps have said above, get used to your car, it's brand new, you should have at least three years trouble free..... Should..... Re mapping your car will always increase wear and tear, have a blast about in it for 6 moth see how you feel,

I have a VRS diesel, and I cant justify mapping it for 35 bhp, that's if I'am correct on the quotes I got, I know it's not much help but think before you spend my man :)

Welcome along.

Think the others have covered it really but if you are set on a map being that it is under warranty I would opt for a map via shark (can be found on here) as they can provide you with a map but also their STS unit that has your original file on it to enable you to swap the files as and when you need. Basically if you require any warranty work.

Re map gains. Its not so much the bhp increase that gives you the biggest gains on diesels, its the torque increase that is so much more noticable. Get inpressive gains on tdis as opposed petrol. I personally do prefer my furby vrs mapped. Not only does it have more power but it has improved the economy and its also imo easier to drive. Far less gear changing as it pulls like a train.

Can i just say a big thank you, as u say with a new car i think i will run it in and get the feel before i do anything (6mths), i have emailed Shark and had a quote of them (£499) for the remap, I think they sound one of the best according to feedbacks, hopefully reputable, also as you say i could swap the file if i need any work done.

I have planned a trip out towing the caravan in two weeks once i have some milage on the car (600miles) i only heard about the front wheels spinning from someones comments on the internet, my nose weight is now to 75kg so as you say im hoping i will be on on tarmac but yes may struggle on grass (will see gulp) obviously for myselt the torque (for towing) is as important as the extra power when enjoying the open road.

Obviously improving the economy and making the car easier to drive would be great.

Thankyou again for all your help.

John
