Full 3" system?

Featured Replies

Anyone on here have a full 3" exhaust from turbo to tip?

Ive recently fitted a 3" down pipe and decat and just got a very good price on a full 3 inch cat back.

My problem or question more so is... Will it be boy racer loud? I know the turbo quietens things a little bit.

Id rather have a nice social verbal to it and not deafening while sensible driving is being done (Anything under 3K). I also don't want any bottle necks hence why i want the full 3" pipe.

So to recap will it be a nice pleasant sound while sitting at traffic lights and like the ground is tearing apart when gunning it? or will it be a continuos drone at every rev range attracting every law enforcer in a 10 mile radius?

Post your videos if you have some!

Thanks

Toast

the only issue you will have is it must be well made to clear over the back rear beam and its noise is dependant on how big the silencers are ;-)

having a 3 inch system from cat back will not see any power gains especially if still on small oem turbo the cat back part isnt a bottle neck!! its just the down pipe that you have changed ;-)

i have a 3 inch system with large rear silencer and yes its very loud but mine was with a gt30 ;-)

The cat acts as a silencer too - but you've cut yours out :giggle:

Sorry to drag this post up but I need some input from people that have different exhausts Have been quoted a very good price on both a 2.5" or a 3" cat back system custom made.

Was wondering what everyones verdict is should I go with a 2.5" or the 3" system???

These two videos show the kind of sounds im looking for!

As said 3" will be a bit big for the rear beam. Even more so lhe lower the car goes.

No point in the size neither as said a 2.5" system is more than big enough for these cars unless going mahoosive turbo with big bhp.

Want more noise just put rear silenser on with no mid.

You will need more than a 3" system to make a sound like that!!

Save your dosh, get a 2.5" system that won't foul the axle. As said earlier, cat back doesn't make any difference, it's the downpipe which is the restriction.

As mentioned you will not gain anything just getting larger exhaust unless you are running much more than std power and potentially bigger turbo, A 2.5" is quite capable to exist gasses benefiting with a decat downpipe.

But if you are concentrating on noise, most off the shelf systems wheather 2.5" or 3" will not give loud chavvy type noise anyway on turbo cars. The silencers on the system do a good job of keeping the noise down. The first pick Octy is loud as it is running big BHP so don't expect a std system to give you that sound on a mild tuned K03s octy. The second pic of the Golf is more typical.

Certainly on tickover. Mine is slightly louder than that on tickover and quite a bit more on through the rev range. It is perfect for me and still well within none chavvy territory. I have Piper 2.5" system with 3" decat/downpipe. Note it is the downpipe that will increase the sound which you already have on a decent off the shelf system.

I will try to post a sound clip later.

I think I'm going to go with 2.5" as I don't want it that loud and I'm not going bigger turbo so no point. Thanks
