19" alloys

Featured Replies

In work and don't really have time to look to see if it has been covered, just been offered a nice set of 19's at a good price they have 235/35 tyres my fabia is lowered 25 or 35 on eibachs and would like to know if yous could tell if they would go on.

Cheers Boyo's

Pretty sure 18"'s are the largest that will go on comfortably - you may find 19"'s will fit but you'll need to do a bit of arch modification to stop them rubbing! :D

thought that be the case as long as it's inner arches and not the actual arch itself it you know what i mean

Here's the JBS car on 18"'s for reference ;)

I would avoid 19's, although asthetics may be improved it would ruin the ride imo...

know they will prob wreck the ride, and she would be as dead as a door knob, but i think she'd look well, was even thinking of only using them for the weekends and things like that as i'm doing big miles at the min during the week and 19" tyres aren't cheap

Nice name. ;)

Not sure you should go over 17's for the above reason. It would handle best on 17's IMO.

WTF???

Andy T5 I thought that was you asking about 19's.... Ahhh now I am confused?!

The stock tyre for a Fabia vRS is 205/45 16 - diameter 590.9mm - circumference 1856.4mm

You're wanting to put on 235/35 19 - diameter 647.1mm - circumference 2032.9mm

That's an increase of 9.5% - will dent the performance and make the speedo illegal unless it's recalibrated...

As an aside, is a misreading speedo illegal? AFAIK, it's not something which is tested at the MOT, so obviously not a factor in the car's roadworthiness?

No it doesn't make it illegal just doesn't read right and even that only starts to occur at higher speeds and is fook all of a difference. I know it will be slower but to be honest don't really care too much on that side as most of my driving at weekends is around town so can't go hard. Just wanted to check to see if it will pull the arches out of the car or catch on anthing serious

actually it handles best on 16"s... which is why i got rid of the 17" :D

I have to agree, I felt the handling was better with the standard 16's rather than the Octy vRS 17's... But I cant give up how it looks :D

Loving the look of the octy vrs alloys on the fabia walkie, but so hard to get a hand on a set

A speedometer that underreads and suggests you're only doing approx 55mph when in fact you're doing 60mph is DEFINITELY ILLEGAL!!!!!

For example from Hansard - http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200001/ldhansrd/vo010312/text/10312w01.htm:

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as amended, allows the use of speedometers that meet the requirements of EC Community Directive 75/443(97/39) or ECE Regulation 39. Both the EC Directive and the ECE Regulation lay down accuracy requirements to be applied at the time of vehicle approval for speedometers. These requirements are that the indicated speed must not be more than 10 per cent of the true speed plus 4 km/h. In production, however, a slightly different tolerance of 5 per cent plus 10 km/h is applied. The requirements are also that the indicated speed must never be less than the true speed.

A vehicle meeting these requirements would not be able to travel at a greater speed than that shown on the speedometer and a driver could not, therefore, inadvertently exceed speed restrictions. Her Majesty's Government have no plans to introduce instrument tests.

The fact that something is or isn't checked at an MOT doesn't mean that the car is or isn't illegal. The MOT is only a basic checklist of things that might go wrong with a car - another widely misinterpreted law reates to numberplates where the MOT only requires them to be legible whereas the regulations go much further.

The calculation above suggests that at 60mph a speedo could read as high as 60 + 3 (5%) + 6 (miles = 10 km) = 69mph, but not lower than 60mph.

Mine - by comparison with my Road Angel 2 - reads about 63/64mph at a true 60mph - or over by around 5-6%. Thus putting on tyres with a rolling circumference of 9.5% extra would put the speedo reading down to around 57/58mph - into the illegal zone.

Thanks
