Exhaust question on tfsi vRS

Featured Replies

I replaced my oem downpipe recently for a blueflame 3'' downpipe and decat, then had the car remapped.

Loving every aspect of it, But....

The baffles have apparently gone in my back box and the combination of the noise on start up and the fumes from the decat system is annoying me! The car is fine once driving, and there is no booming or excessive noise.

I had planned on getting an exhaust specialist to weld flanges onto my old cat so it can be bolted in and out when it comes to getting the car emission tested every 2 years here in Ireland in place of the decat pipe,

I'm just wondering what my options are from anyone who's been there before,

If I fitted a 200 cell cat or similar will this help reduce the fumes, and would the slightly reduced back pressure prevent the baffles from making such a bloody racket until I can find another backbox!!

Alternatively, if I got the flanges welded onto the original cat, and fitted that for now, would it help?

Apologies for the long, drawn out questions, I've searched the last few days but can't get any definitive answers!

Thanks

it will help with the fumes,my friend turbo backed his mk4 golf, now the fumes stink of petrol.

doubt it will stop the baffle rattling though.

It will help the fumes and will have a very small effect on exhaust noise tbh. you could try putting some steel wool in the exhaust pipe?

Thanks lads,

I'm sure when I get a replacement backbox all will be ok, finding one is the problem!

The fumes probably wouldn't bother me so much if the backbox baffles weren't rattling! It's only noticeable for the first few minutes, once it warms up, its fine.....
