  • To be fair you asked them to contribute then tell them you'll be buying another brand. I'd have pushed them further and harder before dropping such a negotiation killer. Only option now seems to g

Thats very bad

This is just so typical british :) The car failed, they repaired it and initially they bought it back. What more do you want? Should they pay you more - why? (and why do someone put a Wunderbaum (the smelling tree) in a brand new car? )

It´s not because I´m teasing you, but as I see it, they have been fair.

Because:

- i would of kept the first if it hadn't had all the issues.

- the new car was the same retail price as the old one for a straight replacement.

- i didn't get a choice of dsg, metallic paint, tinted windows and black wheels which the old car had.

- old car cost me 350miles in fuel going backwards and forwards to the dealership plus 5 litres of oil in excessive oil usage.

- they have don't nothing for me at all except give me 2 choices where i would have been at a loss.

....btw i didn't want extra money just wanted them to cover the cost difference between the two cars or a contribution at least.

It was 3.5 years old at the time.

But you had done 10,000 miles in the first car; don't you think you should meet any of the cost of that mileage and consequent depreciation?

were you offered your money back, even if you got say for instance shoes from m+s you get a refund or same replacement, not something more expensive unless you make the difference

Yes i did get 10,000 miles but 10,000 all trouble where ever i went i didn't know if car was going to breakdown. So why should i take the hit when a car they sold me was not fit for purpose and i tried to be reasonable by giving it benefit of doubt and turned out to be more trouble.

The retail price of a fabia vrs of the spec i had was the same as a basic octavia vrs with the no vat offer

I understand that you will be P'ed off at having all the hassle and the disappointment of a new car you were looking forward to owning but I think you need to be realistic. They did take the car back and give you a decent deal on the Octavia, Sure it cost you 330 miles of fuel - at 45mpg thats 33 litres or about £45. They have taken the hit on the depreciation of your car that had done 10K miles - On a new car that will be about £3000 or more.

And if you go by that logic of the no vat offer, they could have given you your money back, minus vat at 20%, they do not get that money back you originally spent, the vat free is really just money off. Also a car loaded with extras is not worth anymore, just easier to sell on

The VAT offer is a 20% discount, not actually no VAT.

FWIW the SOGA says they would have to give you the lot back.

The VAT offer is a 20% discount, not actually no VAT.

FWIW the SOGA says they would have to give you the lot back.

It's not 20% off though, it's the equivalent of not paying the VAT.

Say something costs £100 including VAT.

VAT is currently 20%, so the gross price is 120% of the net price. So to work out gross price, it's net x 1.2.

Therefore to work back to net price from gross, divide by 1.2

20% off £100 would be £80

The net price of £100 is 100/1.2 = £83.3333333...

Therefore the VAT offer is actually a 16.66666% reduction on the normal price.

Simples :)

How many times did it break down and leave you unable to complete your journey?

You are of course correct and I do know it's not 20% off, I just meant they give you a discount equiv to VAT rather than you not paying VAT.

Regardless of how we cut it dealer would give you full refund of what you paid.

To be fair if that offer had ended you could have been in a sticky situation.

As others have said though, 10k is a reasonable hit on depreciation.

Let's be honest, Rob-vrs is never going to be happy, whatever arguements and facts are put in front of him.

The depreciation they paid to my dealer was £1500, the car is now for sale at £13,495.

No I'm not haha, its not just the money as i thought they've done everything legally its how they have gone about telling and not getting in touch and basically they don't care

The fabia was bought in the15% off so was 15k but obviously is not in that anymore (which is not my problem) and now the octavia are in an offer. Obviously you have to pat VAT they just discounting the price

  • 2 weeks later...

we purchased our brand new fabia in feb, and the 1st weekend of june it broke down its been in the garage for 8 weeks and they say its repaired but could not tell us what was wrong, we are not sure if we want the same car back. we had 1 phone call from the garage in the 8 weeks and we had to ring customer care our selves no one returned any calls until yesterday saying they could perhaps offer us another car but we would have to pay extra. i thiink also the customer care team are terrible, we have to go once again back on monday to see what,s happening, we also had the life shine and a tow bar fitted at skoda which was almost £900 for the 2

To add insult to injury now they are offering a £500 contribution to the 0% VAT cars so i asked them for that and i would leave it there and be happy and thy refused yet again which i though seeing as though they are offering it why cant i have it too.

But why should they? You've accepted the offer of the Octavia. I understand you're not happy but are you going to keep asking Skoda for more money every time they run an offer?

:wonder:
