Gear Linkages wont adjust

Featured Replies

hi all,

had a few issues with my gears unaligning themselves so i adjusted them and they have been fine. Had to do this a few times as i dont think my adjustment was spot on and its unpoppint itself.

Im looking at getting the solid bushing for the cable holder to stop any slopiness but when adjusting today i have an issue that i dont know how to fix.

When you pull back the spring retainer and twist to lock it in the off position it wont actually lock......even though im twisting it. Done this a few times and its always been ok. Can these become too worn to lock? do i need replacement linkages?

Ive got the gears working but if it pops out again it will be difficult to align.

Thanks

Richard

ill go and have a look at mine to better understand your plight.... momentito

im sorry but im looking at mine and i cant see anything resembling what you are talking about. I dont thin k my cabling is different is it?

ok with mine i pull back the spring towards the front of the car, with the black plastic, as mine goes back this releases 3 or 4 legs that grab the threads to stop them from coming away, when releasing plastic and spring it covers these legs making them unable to move. Im not seeing any twist to lock scenario, just pull back adjust thread by pulling or pushing it then release.

If yours pops out then i would say these legs have no longer got theyre grip, and you may need new linkage unless one can get these end bits that grab the thread and join to the gearbox control itself

If im barking up wrong tree, instead of buying all new linkages, you can find ends. Took me a bit of hunting but found these for ya

Heres a bora one for sale:

very artistic! haha if you pull and compress that spring and twist left then it locks in the undone position. this means you can centre the gear stick and centre the gear box all to neutral and then untist these to regrab in the correct place. my second one its grabbing but i think i could just replace the end bit

cool i understand now. Well those are the only end bits for sale i could find anywhere. Nice cheap option

yes worth a go! just seems like its so worn it wont lock anymore.

Going to uprate all the bushes and maybe fit a short shift as you cant beat a good solid gear change! thanks for your help!

no probs, not really a solution for you, but found ends. there were no ends under skoda so bora/golf search etc brought up these.

one of mine locks back but the other doesnt. I dont really need to adjust them often so just a flick back and then release works fine for me if the pins are in the linkage properly.

Yer one of mine is locked on and needs adjusting as reverse us a ****** to find
