Hi All, I have just joined as i am thinking of getting a Citygo at some time in the future. At the moment i have a Smart Diesel which i love. 60 MPG round town and 70 MPG on a longer run.Automatic and free road tax.

I will probably wait till next year when discounts are on offer.Mind you the internet dealers are knocking £500 off at the moment. I would want the Elegance 75 Automatic in Red with the spare wheel, privacy glass, and the extended warranty.

Welcome to the forum.

Are Skoda taking orders on Automatic Citigo's now?

Last i enquired there was no launch date for the Automatics.

Thanks for the welcome. They do show automatics in the brochure and price list, but not sure if they are available yet. The auto gear stick and gate seem to be the same as my Smart. I will probably not get a citygo till next year anyway when discounts are on offer,so by then automatics will be on sale if they are not at the moment.

So the Citygo is a 'tip-tronic' gearbox not fully Auto?

Yes. Similar to the DSG but only one clutch instead of two so probably not quite as smooth as the DSG.

Welcome to the forum. I owned a Forfour recently which was an excellent car but not many specialists that could service it locally.

I think you will find Skoda's are equally good quality but better value.

Best wishes

Hi,Thanks for the welcome. I have owned 2 Smarts,a Petrol in 2003 and the Diesel 2009 which i still have. There is a good Mercedes and Smart Indie in Manchester,as well as the main dealer. I also have a Skoda main dealer quite close.

It's a single clutch automated manual in effect.

It won't be as good as the DSG box because it has sacrificed some ability in order to be very light.

But if the OP is coming from a SMART it will be an improvement as the gear change on those is terrible.

Most jerky auto I've ever come across in 20 years of driving.

I had to drive a SMART 40 miles and felt like a nodding dog.

They have not started to build autos yet for the CItyGo, so there will be some delay until the car arrives.

Hi and welcome aboard.

SWMBO had 2 Smarts, 2nd had flappy paddles, & is now running round in a Fabia,

You shouldnt have too much issue adjusting to a citygo, except probably getting used to not being as high up, Oh ! and not having the irritating blind spot where the rear view mirror is :)

Thanks for the welcome all. I have never found a problem with the auto change in the Smart.I know everyone says it is bad including road testers.I think if you floor it then yes it will give jerky changes, but if you take it easy it is fine. I also believe, and road testers agree that the change is much better on the diesel.

I've read that they are also working in a smaller/lighter dual clutch DSG box for the Citigo but for now the first auto's will be the single clutch system... still going to be a huge improvement on the Smart's gearbox though I reckon.

The worst semi-auto I have driven was a Yaris... few seconds pause on each gearchange... awful!

welcome to the forum!

I'd agree with all of that above, my mate has a SMart Roadster and when he boots it (remapped to 115bhp) it's jerky as hell but the SMart ForTwo diesel that i hired in Germany was as smooth as you like. Couldn't compare with booting it cause i didn't do that but for normal town driving it was spot-on
