VAG 1.6 TDI ecu cracked finally

Featured Replies

It's virtual read at the moment which means the car will only be tuneable if CMD have the original on their servers.

We will be throwing a development opportunity out there before the end of the month if anyone is interested in leaving their car with us for a few days.

Interesting about the virtual read. I know hardware has been out for a while that allowed read and writing of original files.

I take it they disable the encryption on their files on the server. So like you say depends if they have a copy of the file your working on. Assume they'll be quick at increasing their file list.

After looking in more details at the CMD release there's a way to read the map in boot mode (ECU out), so if it's not on their servers then it is still tuneable.

We will be testing shortly and will confirm.

Yeah looks like you use boot mode to unlock the obd function.

Wonder how long untill other companies support it.

I imagine it won't be long, usually once it's out in the open it spreads very quickly.

Swiftec have added auto map detection for the pcr2.1 to the new release. Not looked at a file in winols yet so can't say how useful it would be but they do mention 52 Nm maps lol

Hey Ben,

I have a 1.6 CR monte Carlo that I'd be prepared to donate as guinea pig when you need one.

I'm down seeing you guys with my Octavia on the 4th of August, so we could chat then?

Cheers

Magic Motorsport have now released an update. Now supports the pcr2.1. Like cmd you use boot loader first to unlock the read/write over obd.

Do you have magic motorsports kit?

Hi Ron

We do need a car, and so it would be good to chat to you when you're down, or call the office to discuss if you get chance before then,

Nope. Might look at getting their kit in the future.

Be interesting to see what's gains can be made.

I reckon up to about 130-ish seems sensible.

Probably mappable upto around PD130 levels but with smoother power delivery.

Cool, was going to give your office a bell later in the week anyway as I wanted to see if you can raise the idle on my Octavia as part of the remap on the 4th. Basically the combination of DSG bitting point in D/S and the Sports Exhaust, causes a buffeting/booming from the exhaust that goes when running the AC and the idle is 850rpm rather than 750rpm

Celtic Tuning are claiming

Maximum Power - Wheels 130.2 bhp @ 3,733 rpm Correction Factor 101.9 %

Maximum Power - Engine 153.8 bhp @ 4,084 rpm Environment Temperature 19.4 °C

Maximum Torque 238.8 lbft @ 2,681 rpm Barometric Pressure 994 mBar

Does anyone know how i can upload the PDF so you can all see the full map?

This is a jpeg of the map Celtic tuning sent me in pdf form i've converted it and reduced it in size, let me know what you guys think.

It's from a VAG 1.6 TDI 105bhp (PCR2.1 - GOLF)

Exciting stuff, I think the 150bhp figure is a bit optimistic and if you look at the dyno chart you can see that the standard car made a peak of about 112bhp on that dyno.

It could mean the 105bhp figure is conservative and that they make more than that, however chances are the dyno is out by 7bhp and so peak power for a remapped car will be a tad over 140bhp.

Still good gains though.

My concern is that this engine has no big brother, it is at the top of its tree. By that I mean that with the 1.9PD and the 2.0CR there are high power versions meaning that VW have detuned the lower end models with smaller turbos/software but the mechanicals have been designed for bigger things.

I wonder how strong the 1.6cr is, rods, head bolts etc

I've partially dismantled the top part of mine just to see how it all works and the turbo is tiny.....no bigger than a tea mug.

A lot of cars are overpowered compared to what is stated in the documentation to keep the insurance down, my Type R for example rated to 201bhp in the paperwork but TDI North Dyno had it at 212.7bhp before it was Dyno Tuned.

TDI North are one of the best if not the best Honda Tuners in the UK and the power rating being reduced officially in the paperwork for insurance reasons was explained to me by the owner Paul.

Hhe said it was mostly to do with the fact that cars used to be underpowered compaired to what the manufacturers paperwork said, people got their cars dyno tested and complained that the power figures did not match manufacturers claims and were under powered so the started to make them slightly overpowered to avoid complaints, who's going to complain about an overpowered car?

You could very well be right though Celtics Dyno could be out but i'm more inclined to believe the 1.6 engine is slightly more powerful than stated.

If you are right and it ends up around the 140 mark i think i'll still be happy with that as well though as the Fabia is such a small and light car the increased power should be fairly noticeable.

I'm annoyed myself that this is the top of the tree had they made a 1.9 i'd have gone with that over the 1.6.

I'm no mechanic so i can't say how strong the engine components are but the latest Fabia VRS is just a 1.4, i haven't seen the size of the turbo on that but it's rated at 180bhp.

As long as the turbo's not pushed too much and tuners don't go ott with the fuelling then I'm sure it'll be fine :)

I need to find time to see what the maps are like in this ecu. Believe theirs a few lol
