Alloy claying

Featured Replies

Does anyone, or has anyone, removed their wheels, sat in the garden with a few beers and washed/clayed/sealed their alloys?

Or do you all just do the best you can while they are still on the car?

I finally got around to cleaning my car today after all the rain we've had and it looks good, but I'm not able to get all the muck off the alloys without taking them off. I'm not going to be doing that today (Office to paint too) so just wondered if anyone else had done it.

EDIT: I'd also forgotten how much I loved the smell of Megs Gold Shampoo.

Then I looked at your avatar.

I took them all off and washed them inside out. But use only the soft side of the sponge, as I was stupid enough to use the other side and now I have scratched alloy.

I didn't use any protection stuff, but been thinking about doing it...

good luck!

Yeah I have do everytime I change wheels.

When I first bough my Fabia I spent about 4 hours cleaning the wheels inside and out and put a coat of polish and wax for easier washing next time.

Worth the effort and then the protection IMO.

I regularly remove my alloys and 'deep clean' them

I have a 'special' ceramic coating applied to them, so cleaning is now a breeze

Yes did just this on Sat morning, alloy cleaner, AG tar remover, AG SRP then a coat of that AG liquid gloss wax, then decided my 2 front alloys needed a refurb so set about it with some sand paper. Gave up made a mess and they are currently getting stripped at a wheel refurb shop.

At least 2 are sorted, even painted up my wheel nut covers, they were looking worse for wear.

Just finished doing SWMBO's 'new' winter wheels:

Very cherry non acidic wheel cleaner

AG tar remover

Clayed

AG SRP

FK100P

Mine also get the same treatment when the winter wheels go on as well.

i try and do the best i can while there on the car but im have my winter wheels and tyres fitted in a few months so will give them a full clean, decon and protect before they go back on in spring.
