Ruptured Underseal on Sill

Featured Replies

Just had a tyre repaired and although the workshop used a jack with the protective rubbers, the thick rubber underseal has slightly deformed on the sill lip and I suspect it may cause water ingress over time. Does anyone know of a suitable coating or even if the original Skoda stuff can be bought? I have used the usual black stuff many times before but I want to keep it the original colour so need it to be over-paintable. Any help appreciated. I don't think I can get it done under warranty.

The 'Consumer Rights' answer,

No it can not be repaired under the Skoda Warranty,

but any Serious Corrosion later on or a 'Holed Panel' needs to be,

So,

you get it repaired under the workshops insurance, Thats why they have it & should be more careful.

and it needs done with a guarantee.

So best tell them its to be done at a Skoda Approved workshop,

as its their Warranty covering Paint & Corrosion.

Regular answer & everyday answer,

But

since thats the Skoda 'Paint & Corrosion Warranty' is actually not worth the paper its written on, probably just make sure its dry and clean and apply a good Stone Chip protection bought at your local Motor Factors.

You decide which.

Agree with all above...U-pol stone chip (aerosol)I recommend...give it three coats.

Personally I always jack under sturdy suspension parts, never sills.

Unless you intend to have the car in more than 10 years time I can't see corrosion being an issue.

Waxoyl or similar should be ok I think?

When I jack the car I do use the sills, but I've cut a recess out of a hockey puck and put an old rag in that recess to help protect the sills while they're jacked up.

Thanks for the replies. I do intend to keep the vehicle as long as possible as it happens - how strange is that! My previous Rover and Escort lasted over 15 years each with careful maintenence by myself - far cheaper than constantly replacing a new car. I normally do any maintenance or repairs myself but have 2 years warranty remaining on this one. I would not out of choice use the jacking points on the sill unless I used the jack supplied with the vehicle with great care, but tyre repairs are out of my league so had to use a tyre repair shop - out of my hands to a degree then. This was in fact the 3rd repair place I went to locally before I found one that looked remotely professional without some snivelling teenager, and which had the correct equipment, although even then they should have jacked the car using the underbody points. I did request a quote for a new tyre from Skoda but they didn't even bother calling me back! To get back to the original query - is the U-Pol stuff overpaintable? I'm not concerned too much about the warranty issue as I realised that is not an option in this case and I wouldn't waste any more time over it.

Yes, the U-Pol stone chip stuff is overpaintable. My automotive/paint factor recommended this as the best and I was satisfied with it.

(It's possible Halfords may stock it.)
