Hi! - here to get help to fix the wife's Octavia window regulator

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! Nice to be here at last. Before the wife bought her MK1 Octavia 1.9 TD I trawled this forum to see what people thought and what problems there were.

She's had it a year now, and it's been very reliable and cheap to run.

Sunday she announced that her driver's door window had packed up. On investigating, the motor is OK, but one of the cables in the regulator has snapped. I ended up signing up on here to use the search function, after our local indy quoted £150 which she hasn't got, to fix it.

I can get a complete pattern regulator on eBay for £55 ish, and get the gist of what I need to do - get it out and swap the motor / control unit over, then re-assemble. I had a butchers last night, with the help of this board to get the door panel off.

The glass is stuck in the up position, probably no bad thing with all the rain. How do I separate the glass from the regulator, when I cant get at the clips? when I have taken the screws out attaching the regulator to the door, how easy is it to get in and out of the hole in the door? Is it hard to swap the motor / controller assembly?

Any feedback from someone who's done it would be appreciated, thankyou.

Welcome !!

Try posting in the Mk1 section or have a look in the guides section as this has more than likely been covered in there.

Thank David, I have reposted down there.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello MrDavo and welcome along

Hi and welcome .

If you disconnect the motor or take the motor off It should release the glass to move freely but just make sure your holding it so it doesnt drop and smash. Once its free you can move it to the locator holes to undo the grips. When you tighten them back up be careful not to tighten too well or it will shatter the glass.
