Help - playlist file format for Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone give me some examples of playlist file formats that work for the Columbus ?

I'm trying to use the *.m3u files that come out of iTunes, which look like:

#EXTM3U

#EXTINF:307,Lenny - Stevie Ray Vaughan

/10-320/Stevie Ray Vaughan/Texas Flood/10 Lenny.mp3

#EXTINF:346,Solid Air - John Martyn

/10-320/John Martyn/Solid Air [Remastered]/01 Solid Air.mp3

The Columbus reads them fine, lists all the tracks they contain but when I try to play them it says it can't find the playlist files.

The files are there. If I manually go through the folders I can find the files and they play ok on the Columbus.

I thought I must have just got the path wrong but it seems ok.

I've also tried deleting all the lines starting with a "#" in case that was confusing it but no joy.

I must be missing something obvious.

Found some excellent info here:

The only difference I can see is forward vs reverse slash (eg ,\Music\Track01.mp3 vs /Music/Track01.mp3)

I'm on a Mac so iTunes has used forward slash. I'll try that tonight and see if it works.

Mp3 and wma work fine. Just need to convert your tracks. Easy to do in iTunes on a Mac and probably on windoze.

Then drag and drop folders/ albums onto an SD card.

I can make mp3 files and copy them onto SD and the HDD - no problem there thanks. And they play ok.

The issue is that I can only get the playlists to work if they are in the same directory as the tracks, absolute path just doesn't work whatever I try.

I found a translated document about a firmware update on MyGTi.com saying playlists have to be in the same directory as tracks - and that's exactly how mine works.

Daft way to manage 32GB of music IMHO

It also mentions a limit of 1000 files per directory which makes it even more of a joke but I haven't tested that limit yet.

I'm going to get a lead for the MDI and see if that is any better with a HDD. If not at least I'll have plenty of disc space to store multiple copies of the same track and have a separate directory full of tracks for each and every playlist.

I really hope someone comes along and says "Don't be stupid, just do this and it will work".
