New fabia Vrs owner. Just had a coil spring go after 1 day!

Featured Replies

Well, I picked up my fabia vrs yesterday evening.

It everything I expected in the fact it pulls lovely, is genuinly quite rapid and in the 50 miles ive had it, its only burnt a gallon of diesel!

I wont go on singing its praises too much as im sure most of you have heard it before.

I have had a couple of niggles though...

The handbrake feels totally limp untill it actually bites, but I found a thread mentionng that putting springs on the rear calipers 'tightens' it up and stops the rear calipers from binding (which they did a bit when I first picked it up) so I ordered 2 of the springs today.

There is a dead annoying high pich squeak (like plastic on plastic) coming from the plastic trim between the instrument cluster and the steering column shroud. Canny silence the bugger no matter how hard I try!

But most annoying of all, I accelerated off a roundabout today, loading up the weight on the drivers side due to the corner, and *BANG*.... *TING TING TING*. I looked in my rear view and saw a small curved peice of metal bouncing down the road behind me!

When I pulled over, I found that that half of the top coil of the drivers side front suspension coil spring has exploded!

Because its the very top coil, its not altered the ride hight or effected the handling so I was alright to drive still, but at low speed, there is a bit of a grinding where the top of the spring coil is no longer smooth!

So anyway, I've just ordered a new replacement pair of sachs front springs from euro car parts, so hopefully get these fitted, then can spend some money on more fun stuff. Like remaps haha.

Anyone have a rough idea what a garage will charge in labor to fit 2 new front springs to my fabia? Not a huge job I would immagine?

Cheers,

Lew.

Rookie mistake. Ive put this in the fabia 2 section instead of the fabia 1 section. Sorry!

Not the easiest job as the struts have to come out to get springs on and off.

Moved to fabia 1 for you

Have you not got a mechanic mate? Me and a mechanic mate fitted my coilovers the other night in a couple of hours, I gave him £20 and he was made up!

Affraid not,

Ive done them before. Not too tricky. Can be fun if the spring compressors slip!

Make sure the springs are for the vRS
