Kindle Device Limit

Featured Replies

I was using my BB Playbook to access a Kindle book this evening when the message came up "You have exceeded the device limit for this book please either De-register one of the devices or buy another copy" and it wouldn't load the book. Other books listed in the same archive were still loadable. Subsequently, I fired-up the desktop and the same happened there.

At the time I had 9 Kindle Devices for PC loaded and one for Android (I had previously sideloaded Kindle for Android onto the Playbook). The device number 7 is the one applicable to my current Windows 7 Desktop and there is another active one for the laptop and one for the Media server. All the rest are redundant and relate to operating systems (Or reinstalls of OS) which are no longer installed on the main desktop e.g. XP.

Last BB OS update was last month and last desktop OS install was Windows 7 done in February. The two Kindle books in question were purchased and downloaded to my Desktop (which was then running Vista) 15 months ago.

After a bit of research, I worked out that I probably needed to delete some of the Kindle devices from the Kindle account. So logged onto Kindle in my Amazon account and deleted all the Kindle for PC devices except No 7 and then renamed that just kindle for PC, Rebooted Kindle on the desktop and on the BB and now both books load fine on both devices.

My question, after this long preamble, is why has this just suddenly occurred ? Nothing has changed recently ?
