Squeaky brakes

Featured Replies

3400 miles and brakes are squealing when breaking coming to a stop. It's annoying and doing my skull in. What should I look at replacing? The pads or discs or all?

If the Pads are in good condition and the discs are in good condition after inspection,

i would look at changing nothing untill i had removed the pads and put a little Copper Grease behind each pad and seen how it is.

there's often no cure for squeeky brakes...... copper grease when fitting pads..

I think sk4gw is right. That was the way the squeeking disappeared in my former PUG 106. Back then in 2006, mechanic told me that the pads were made by a stiff / hard material and then he applied a kind of ointment and since then they never squeeked again until 2009. Then I gave it away for an 1.2Htp '06 Fabia.

Try to spray Würth Brake Cleaner (or similar product), it works in most cases

Mines have been squeeky as hell for about 4 months now, even after they were cleaned in a service

They always seem to be gettting better then i have to brake hard and there back to the worst :(

Ok so a little update on this. I removed all the pads and prepared the pad and disc surfaces with a brake cleaning/preparation solution. I copper slipped all the pad rears and runner guides and re assembled. Thought the annoying squeak had gone but found it came back again when coming off the motorway. So taking to the dealers to have a look at the cause.
