I got brembo front brakes. Not because they stop me better, because they look fecking huge behind the wheels! Haha

  • The dealer will not fit parts not designed for the car - and rightly so. Yeah they might fit and yeah deluded people on forums might think its some sort of 'upgrade' but its still not right. In term

  • Not saying you are wrong but why would manufcaturers fit bigger brakes if it was just a cooling issue? There MUST be more benefits than that (at least what i tell myself) Sounds like they were pote

Worth measuring the thickness first, make sure they're not at or under minimum.

Why not see if someone from here will be willing to do it for beer money? Would be cheaper than a garage.

Before you fit them, give the centres a rub down and a good painting. It should

help to keep further rust down and they'll look better on the car. ;)

Just slap it on the external non service areas of the disc.

Pagids come painted already for further reference.

Defo best option if you have had problems with indi's.....and the main dealers only "just" fit boxes!!!

I self taught with a haynes.......and alot of figuring out........now have well over 20yrs of "knowledge"........still use this site for some reffence when I hit something new!

P.S. I do my mates cars for beer money..........current mates cars i work on inc VW Lupo, MK1 Fabia, VW Golf MKV, Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio

I'm just waiting for a quote from a friend of my GF's cousin who's a mechanic and knows exactly what i want done.

I'm hoping to get the brakes cleaned up and looking better before getting them stuck on. Trying to think of a colour that isn't red or green to make them stand out but can only really think sky blue (Coventry fan) and that would just get dirty quickly!! :D

Is this the paint needed for the disc centres or wouldn't it be good enough??

Also, is this the correct green if i decide to stick with that??

Or maybe this colour...

surely bigger discs with larger pads = a greater surface area which would also = more stopping power? Or am I wrong. If I am then why don't we all just fit piddly little discs of some piddly little shopping cart?

Surface area is a minor player. The important parts are the clamping load, disc diameter at the piston centre and friction coefficient of the pads.

Bigger or more pistons give you more clamping load, bigger rotors give you bigger diameter at the piston centre and more aggressive pads have higher friction coefficients.

You may have to re do them once a year to keep it looking tip top

but it's essentially the same paint as I have on my calipers (albeit a different colour)

and that's been fine on them so far. And they've been plenty hot!! ;)

As for shade of green, I used hammerite smooth green on my calipers, Using anything else is

in the eye of the beholder really. There are a couple of different products that have been

found since the smooth green has been discontinued. But I'm not sure what's what with them.

It's very hard to judge actual shades on a pc monitor since all our screen settings are probably

different so colours won't necessarily appear the same.

One thing. Do you have carriers for those brake calipers???

Yes, they're attached to the calipers in my earlier pics i believe. That's just based on comparing my pics to the guide pics.

In terms of it being an upgrade it will 100% not stop you any better. A larger disk may allow better cooling, therefore better fade resistance but the whole "wow the car stops shorter" its a no go I'm afraid. If you can trigger the ABS on standard brakes (which you can unless there is a fault) then the limitation is tyre grip. The 0.1% before the wheel locks is optimum braking. You could have brakes off a Veyron and they will not stop you faster, they just mean its way easier to trigger the ABS.

The biggest factor for braking is the tyres. Buy some Toyos (not 888) or other budget tyre and you are not stopping as quick as a premium brand such as a Michelien Pilot Sport PS3. This is a fact and something people miss when modifying their car. Better tyres also mean better handling and safety too.

Pet hate of mine is the whole brake 'upgrade' so just feel free to ignore thsi post :-)

dis agree entirely mate

ive fitted octy vrs brakes all round on my fabia and they are one hell of a lot better andstop me faster.

with same tyres on same bit of road. same on my octy with the lcr brembos. stops that car fast too.

like been said why put big brakes on cars then.

312mm should of been on the fabia vrs from the start imo.

My GF's cousin is now asking why am i changing the calipers for a brake upgrade!! I don't know what's so hard to understand when i ask for parts i'm supplying to be put onto my own car.

I think i'm just going to print the guide and go with parts and guide and just say, 'Put these on this please.' :D

All that is covered nicely on page 1 of this thread.

Some vehicles run the same calipers for different size rotors and instead just run a different adapter or carrier. Could simply be he's used to working on cars that do that instead.

Aaaa, didn't know that, though i am a mechanical novice.

Polo 6N2 GTi for one, when considering G60 upgrades

When I had my fabia the front brakes were **** poor ( to the point the test drive scared me ) . After a few weeks of to and from dealer with ****/squeeky brakes , I went for a 312.

Do it youself . its not too hard.....

Also my local Skoda garages love my 312's . Apart from one guy who keeps telling me they are the wrong colour :/

Can the little cable/plug attached to one of the pads be cut off???

I'm guessing it's a sensor thing on the Octavia that isn't on the Fabia.

Currently in the process of painting and hoping to have them fitted when i get back from Devon, fingers crossed.

Yes, cut it off.

Pretty sure it's all in the fitting guide.

I knew i should have read that first, sorry. I had a feeling i'd seen it somewhere but thought it quicker to ask.

  • 3 weeks later...

yep those ones should be fine

same part number is listed for the TT which only had 312's
