Can someone help me out. My old starter shat itself just before the nct.. Typical!

I am finding it strangely hard to find a new starter for the car. Got one from a 2003 AUQ engined GTI golf but no, it's not the right one, I think the gear is too long and so would be engaged all the time. Can anybody give me a part number or even just what other cars it will fit.

Any help really appreciated.

Need one from a 5 speed gearbox, i believe the Auq golf had the 6 speed box in it,

Yeah i have one, been on a year and working fine

I got mine supplied and fitted at my local VAG specialist when I had my clutch done, it was a bosch one, cost about £120. The surcharge on returning the old one was massive, obviously big demand for them
