Warranty paint work bites me in the ass.

Featured Replies

So I put my car in for some warranty paint work with my local dealer, and they authorised repairing my sills, which is great news, but apparently they stripped them right down and found loads more rust which they are now trying to get authorised as well.

Plus side I suppose the sills will look nice and shiny whatever happens. Downside if they just paint the bits they stripped I'll always know about the other rust waiting to attack me from beneath!

Rusty sills? Where abouts?

I thought the mk1 octy was galvanised so shouldn't rust?

Rusty sills? Where abouts?

Just in front of both rear wheel arches, I'm lucky to get the work authorised, there are stone chips there too, but some unexplained rust got me the warranty work qualified. The guy at Skoda bodyshop said that it's been jacked in wrong places on sill etc which has caused damage underneath (NOT ME I SWEAR, I USE CORRECT JACKING POINTS AND WOULDNT USE THE SILL ITSELF)

Can't be, unless they changed it for my 53 plate ;)

Bit worried that someone is having rusty sills and the like on a car this recent...:S

Saw a 54 plate with well rusty sills, were also really bent due VW jacking on both sides

Yeah, he said mine were a bit bent in places as well, your lucky your's is black Raf or I might steel your sills :p

To be honest the rusty/bent sills isn't the worst thing about this tragic story. The worst thing is my courtesy car from Skoda is a roomster

Careful! You might get the roomster riff raff in here with comments like that! lol

I thought that they just had those Roomster sections for complaints ;)

To be fair it is roomy!

In all honesty I can see that claim getting rejected when they put that through.

Well, me too. Nice to know someone who owned my car before me subjected it to this abuse.

From my point of view I hope they'll do something about it tho. A loyal skoda owner like me. I take back what I just said about Roomsters. Please fix the rust!

Well I'm shocked, but happy. Skoda have authorised it. 30 hours of work per sill apparently = 60 hours, I can't even imagine what level of corrosion we must be talking about now.

That means I better start liking the Roomster, it'll be at least 2 weeks.

Anyone chipped one of these 1.6 TDI's :giggle:

It's often because the drainage channels get blocked with leaves and never cleaned out.

It's easy to do, just remove the front arch liners in that area, pull out the leaves etc, then wash it down with a hose pipe etc.

One that's done reattach the liner.

If you don't clean it, then there is a nasty damp sludgy mess in there all day every day, which obviously will help rust get started.

FWIW, if they don't get the rest authorised, I'd stump up the cash for the parts and ask them to do it anyway.

Same place on my 05 plate, Skoda did the paint

Babs, did yours take this long too? I'm just glad it's getting sorted, but I do miss my car ;)

Car was gone for 4 days in total
