Durability of Kenwood HUs

Featured Replies

I was wondering about your long-term experiences with Kenwood HUs - if any, of course.

Mine (a M9021) broke down after two years and one month. And I mean broke down as in completely dead. Will be claiming warranty just the same, as I can't believe stuff like this is failing in just over two years' time.

Any similar experiences?

Yep, my head unit only made it to about 6 months before it decided not to play anymore :grumpy: Absolutely, completely dead.

Had it repaired and it's been fine since.

I had a Kenwood mask for nearly three years with no problems - transferred it between cars too.

I had a Kenwood HU and 6 disk in a 1975 Mini fitted with Spax for many years with no problems at all - apart from scumbags nicking changer occasionally. This was transferred from the Mini to a Saxo and then back to Mini.

Currently have Kenwood MP3 player and all the trimmings waiting to be fitted to my Octy VRS. Anyone got any ingenious places to put an Amp - my last car was a Rover 420, and I fitted it under the passenger seat.

I've had numerous Kenwood HU's over the years and have had very little problems. The ribbon cable on my mask unit lasted for about a year and a half before cracking. The ribbon cable doesn't like high temperatures like if you are parked with direct sunlight on the dash on a hot day. It's a bugger to fix but I used to repair HU's so no big deal but not a DIY job. Otherwise no bother
