Help - RNS510 install backfired

Featured Replies

I just put in my new RNS510 and Bluetooth kit. Got it in and did some coding in VCDS (which didn't qiuite match any guides but was close enough). Thought it was going ok when I was going through the screens on Setup in the RNS510 and clicked on Maps or Navigation and it was loading something which took ages. I thought it was trying to find the satellites, so I tried starting the car to get out of the shed. No go. Car doesn't even crank over. Now when I turn on the ignition the dash goes crazy, flickering lights and relays behind the dash clicking. The display between the speedo and tacho is blank.

Tried taking out the RNS510 and bluetooth and putting the Audience back in, but same thing. Can't run VCDS because the ignition power won't stay on.

Things I did wrong (but I wouldn't have thought would matter) - didn't have my antenna adaptor yet so I connected one of the antenna cables. I wouldn't think that would have any ill effect, just maybe the radio wouldn't receive (or not as well as it would with both connected).

Id check your fuses first just incase you've blown one

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

My bet is your battery is flat.

Seriously, I was doing some coding ony dads MY2010 Octavia, he had the auto lights on.

We were sat for about half an hour whilst doing the coding, went for a restart and had much the same symptoms. Dad was concerned I'd broken his pride and joy despite not actually changing anything with VCDS.

I'll find a link for you in a minute that gave me the diagnosis!!!

We called skoda assist (RAC) they attended, checked the battery, charged it for about 30mins and all was well, and has been since.

charge the battery and you will be fine, don't give up on the sat nav.

I did have the lights on and was mucking about coding for about 30 mins. It's mid winter here so the battery could ahve been low to start. Just connected my CTek charger and it's showing only 2nd stage out of 8, so I reckon that's it. Jeez that scared the crap out of me. I did check tha deash panel fuses which are ok. I'll charge overnight and try tommorow.

Thanks, it'll be a relief if it's that simple.

Forgot to say I did put an updated CanBus gateway in (for the battery leak issue), but that's been fine for a couple of weeks since I did it.

I think it's the mad dash lights and clicking relays that threw me. Not like any low battery I've had before, but I've only had this car 6 months so I'm not used to its bad habits.

Yes, that's what it was. Fine this morning. Except the RNS510 won't play CD/DVD's. It loads them and reads the album etc but won't play.

It's a H61 3970 model. I'll try the latest firmware.

Messed about with the coding a bit more. Have sound now. I think the no audio was because I had microphone monitoring on, but I changed a couple of things so I'll have to switch them one by one to work out exactly which was the cause. I updated the firmware, but that wasn't the issue.
