I hope this isn't the start of a problem... OIL

Featured Replies

I noticed that when I started the car up its been sounding louder than it used to and when high in the rev's its been a bit tinny so to say.

So I though best check the oil, now mine hasn't used a drop since I got it so only check it probably every 6-8 weeks I only do around 300 miles a month.

When I checked the oil was at the bottom of the criss-cross bit, out came the oil and put 200ml in, started up let it run for a min an turned off a left for a min, checked again, moved up a tiny bit... Put another 300ml in to take it to 0.5L and its now about 2mm from the top of the criss-cross bit so I'm going to leave it and keep my eye on it.

I'm putting it down to a hard week it had with APR constant testing, dyno's and data logging. So really it will have used more than normal in the last 1000 miles.. I hope!

BTW the ticking sound on start up has gone and the tinny sound when at high rpm's has quietened down

Topped mine up before it went down to APR last week. Will make sure to keep a close eye on the oil when I get it back. So far used a litre of oil in just over 4k miles, but then didn't check it when it came out of the dealers.

How are you finding the map now on a day to day basis?

It's really good mate! Driving easy is a lot smoother I think. And I find myself putting it in manual a lot of the time and using the extra power more!

I like to keep the revs bellow 5k when making progress as the peak torque is at 3k so at 5k it feels as if the torque is dropping off quite a lot even though peak power is at the end of the rev range I feel it make more progress short shifting, just my driving style and that's exactly how I feel the map is

Check the little one way valve on the small breather. Mine failed when mapped and allowed oil to pass into the intake system.

Cheers! I'll check that tonight

I've completely done away with the breather system now and run a catch tank. Gained about 2psi in lost boost aswell.

How did you set that up pitbull?

If some kind soul could post a pic or diagram showing the valve in question that would be useful

At the top right of the engine, there's a little pipe that connects into the air intake, if you take the engine cover off and follow the pipe that goes to the engine there's a valve in this line, L shape I think

I'll do a write up when completely done. I'm testing a few different set ups at the moment to see what give me best figures.
