spedo, rev counter, fuel gauge, temp gauge & heater controls suddenly stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi, We have a Mk 1 Superb 1.9tdi 52 reg. Driving back home today & suddenly the speedo & rev counter are at 0. The fuel gauge & temp gauge are also at empty/cold & there is no display on the heater controls. We've checked the fuse in the fuse box which is ok. As we've discovered before though, there are other fuses hidden!! Does anyone have any ideas if there are any more fuses lurking else where? Or is it something more serious/ expensive we have to worry about. It had it's cambelt changed Monday & a new front coil yesterday (n/s). I can't think that either of these could be related to this?!!! Any help would be appreciated! We are due to drive to Cornwall Friday so we would like this sorted asap!!! Many thanks.

The fuse had blown(listed wrongly in box) so was changed worked ok. Went out today got just a few 100 yds down road & the same thing has happened again. There must be something that is causing the fuse to blow. Does any one have any ideas please? Would like to fix ourselves rather then paying garage costs. Many thanks

Sounds like it's short circuiting somewhere...

sounds like its the old water ingress problem....

Had an identical problem with our 2.0 TDI last year. Turned out to be the high pressure AC switch.

Just to let you know, the problem was caused by the air con wire rubbing. The cam belt was replaced at our local dealer & the wires for the air con unit were not put back properly. So a few days later the wires had moved & were rubbing on 1 of the belts. Hence while stationary everything worked fine. As soon as the car moved, with air con on, it shortened out & blew the fuse. All discovered by the very helpful & friendly RAC man.
