Dirty Nooks and Crannies - Door Seals

Featured Replies

Gave the car a good wash before the holiday next week. Just finishing off around the doors when I thought I'd peek in around the rubber door seals. To my horror there was a large build-up of dirt and silt sitting there. I couldn't just let it sit there so I just had to clean it all up. It was especially bad at the bottoms of the doors behind the rubber there and at the front side near the hinges. Because it is covered you probably wont see it during normal cleaning. Fortunately the rubber is quite soft and pliable so it is simple to get a folded piece of soapy towel down there to clean it out. Added an extra hour to the job as there was so much, but well worth it in the end.

I think leaving it like it was would eventually promote rust and decay.

i clean the seal on the bottom on the door after every wash,i run a peice of blue towel across it a few times trying to get behind it,the reason is because this seal seems to hold a bit of water, there is already a small patch of bubbling on the sill where there rubber seal meets it.

Noted. Will clean this area next time the car gets a wash.

Thanks.
