Running on SVO

Featured Replies

It appears that the fuel supply on the 1.9 TDi engine may be heated. The reason I say this is using my copy of VCDS lite on the engine controller which indicates a fuel temperature, which is quite hot.

Therefore, if this is the case, has anyone used SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil) to run this engine?

Its a non CR engine. SVO is normally too viscous to use at room temperature and damages fuel pumps etc, but is OK when heated. Indeed is used in Germany and several companies offer pre-heater systems.

The price of Bio Diesel (B100), especially when one takes into account its lower cetane rating, mpg, and distance to travel to find it - is just not worth it. Also if you make your own, when you take into account all the economics, the hassle, again hardly worth it.

SVO can be obtained for £1 per litre. A considerable saving.
