Update:

OK after popping up the M4 to see Dave in Cardiff (you all know him as fatty5000 before he changed his name. Again!) We realised that it wont change using the proper Rosstech cable and VCDS 11.11. Just to let everyone know what I was trying to do, SWMBO has an A2 with a dodgy CCM. The alarm keeps going off (common fault apparently) and I wanted to see if it could be disabled (its the weediest sounding siren ever, wouldnt wake a baby let alone alert you to a problem. I have heard louder farts :D) from the info that I had found I had deduced that I needed to subtract 10 (8+2) from the softcode to shut it off but this meant the code was changing from 06859 to 06849 and it just would not accept it.

after further testing I figured that My CCM had a code 1 higher than everyone else so the proper code to turn it off turned out to be 06848
