Xenon To Continental Halgon Headlight Replacement

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a new Superb Comb Elegance 4x4, at the moment i have the SE Comb 4x4 and at the moment i live in Europe so i must replace the UK lights for continental headlights. As i already have normal halgon headlights is it possible that i can remove the xenon headlights and replace them with the halgon continental headlights. I only have 6 months left in my job in Europe and want to avoid paying £1200 for xenon headlights for less than 6 months.

I believe, "tourist" mode is what one need to use in MaxiDot when changing left-sided traffic to right-sided (and vise versa). No need to change the "hardware".

It will not swap xenon for halogen though. Is xenon forbidden in Continental Europe?

No xenon are not forbidden in Europe, tourist mode on the Maxidot only makes the beam flat and as it says it is for tourists on a temp vist to Europe this is not good enough for me as i will be living in Europe for about 6 months therefore tourist mode is not an option.

Tourist mode is fine for that!

You are on a temporary visit there (6 months).

The main thing you are trying to achieve here is to not dazzle oncoming traffic. I also have never had a problem with the visibility at night while the "flick-up" of the lights is blocked.

Safe yourself a lot of time, hassle and money and just turn tourist mode on!

I see plenty of left hand drive cars that are kept in the UK for months where they have just kept the eurolites headlight converters on.

You would only need to swap to LHD lights if you planned to live there permanently and wanted to re-register the car over there.

I need to register the car here in Germany and tourist mode will not pass the inspection. I need to fit xenon continental headlights or as per the post halgon continental headlights. I work for the british goverment and the car is required to be inspected for the correct headlights to be fitted. Tourist mode is designed for use on holiday e.g 2 week not 6 months.

Ah right. Sorry. Didn't realise you were having the car registered there.

You should be able to swap the headlights to halogen units. You would then need to use VCDS or similar to tell the car that it no longer has xenon headlights.

I'm pretty sure the wiring is the same for the xenon and halogen units.

Surely if you require a car for your work and are required to have the car inspected etc then they should help out with the expenses of this?

Just be sure to keep your xenon lights to put back in eventually. They are worth a fair bit of money.

Viel spass und viel gluck!

Thank you for your help, i think that i will go ahead and order the Elegance and take the chance that they will work i think that as long as the plug is the same there is a good chance that it will work. With other cars i know that it can be done Audi A4 (2004), Ford Mondeo (2009) i did on the Mondeo without having to recode the car. Skoda havent been very helpfull i think because they are losing £1200. Not sure if it will need recoding as the voltage will be the same for both type of headlights.
