Engine temp up and down

Featured Replies

Car takes an age to warm up, most of the time its around 60C when im driving, only time it gets upto the middle mark 90 is when im sitting or crawling in traffic for some time. If i'm driving along doing 30 or even on the motorway its hovering between 60 and 70c, sometimes its even dropped below 60!!.. It used to be consistent at 90 when I first bought it. Its all over the place now.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Samuel

ECU coolant temperature sensor or more likely your thermostat.

how tight should the bolts be on the thermostat housing after fitting new thermostat?? i did both as tight as i could by hand, but is there a torque setting??

also after fitting my heater is now blowing cold air....

Open the exspansion tank and let the engine run until the fans kick in. Sounds like air in there. I did mine as tight as I could by hand. Been fine.

it looks like its leaking but i cant see where from, i turn the engine on and there are drops coming from the bottom of the engine... i cant find anywhere around the thermostat housing where i can see or feel it leaking..

u sure its not just the overflow from the expansion tank?

also worth checking the drain tap on the bottom hose from radiator, sometimes gets crap stuck in it when you drain the coolant

ok its fine now, it was the overflow on expansion. I had to put in tap water where I lost coolant... Is it ok to run it on tap water for say a month? I heard that minerals can build up and its not good, but how quickly do they build up before they cause damage?? Also how much coolant do I need to do a complete replacement of the coolant in the engine if I drain via the bottom hose??
