New suspension advice

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm about to have some new springs fitted on Monday, I have new Sachs shocks fitted and the original springs with just over 160,000 on them at the moment and 16" wheels.

I have to say the ride is uncomfortably hard now over even very small bumps.

Could this be due to worn/sagging springs not letting the shocks work properly or is it the Sachs shocks likely to be the cause ?

I'm trying to decide if I should put some standard new springs on and hope this helps or if I should ditch the Sachs shocks and try HR springs and Bilstein combination which I've noticed some of you recommend ?

I don't necessarily want to lower the car, although I wouldn't mind if it can be done without compromising the ride too much.

Thanks....

I imagine it's more to do with the compression rate on the Sachs shocks than the springs. Though I'm no expert :)

I do suspect the Sachs shocks because one or two people have suggested they ride a bit harder, I just can't believe a set of new shocks could make it that bad. There's a bit of a clunk when the front wheels make contact with even the most tame speed bumps and when the back drops down from a speed bump it sounds like theres someone kicking a base drum in the boot.

I'm certainly no expert either but after a bit of googling I'm starting to suspect worn suspension bushes. Maybe I should get these done anyway at 160,000 seeing as all those bits will be coming out for the new springs ?

Can anyone suggest a kit to purchase and give me a rough idea what to spend please ? After more googling I still can't find a complete kit anywhere....

Many thanks.
