Fabia 1.2 HTP

Featured Replies

Hi,

Bought a 57 plate new shape fabia today 1.2 6 valve. The most basic of basic fabias (insurance group 1) in the hope that my son can drive it after passing his test for the lowest possible price.

The vehicle is quite high mileage (100k+) but 80% of that being motorway and I was wondering if the chain needs to be changed at all or how to tell if the chain needs changing? It's been well looked after and has a fresh clutch etc and the air filter was also relatively clean, hopefully indicating the previous owner kept it in good nick. I'm going to get it booked in for a complete service and was just curious as to how long these little powerhouses go on for if maintained properly?

Thanks.

Goodmorning and welcome,

This is a nice little car, nippy enough with a nice short gearbox and almost bullet proof. Usually timing chain lasts as long as the cars life. Just as soon as timing chain problem occurs you will understand it. It is very distinctive one.

The sound and the engine is the same as MK1 Fabia but MK2 Fabia has more power due to different ECU software - mapping.

.

. Car has a sport air filter fitted but you can clearly hear the engine's sound.

Sound with open bonnet. It is the same engine as yours.

Defective timing chain1. It's not your engine, but a defective timing chain produces the same or similar sound.

As above.

I was unable to find a video with defective 1.2htp timing chain, so I bet your car will be fine. Just keep the car serviced as stated by manufacturer. I had an 2006 one and was great. I serviced her every 15.000Km or yearly and always used 5w-30 oil and never had any problem.

Best wishes for happy and save miles to your son.
