Opinions on running a tuning box WITH a stage 1 remap?

Featured Replies

Im very happy with my stage 1 revo map I have on my vRS, but I had a thought and just wanted opinions/experience off other members.

I have a tuning-diesels.com Synergy digital tuning module that I had fitted to a jeep cherokee 2.8 TDI (mercedes engine) a couple of years ago lying around my garage.

It was very good, and made a big difference when I drove the Jeep. Its a proper digital tuning box with vairiable settings (not a resistor mod) and I have used tuning-diesels.com's stuff before from back when I drove diesel Rovers (they started out as rover tuning specialists) and I would highly reccomend their products.

Now obviously this wont fit a Fabia vRS, but they will part exchange my used unit I have for one of their brand new units designed specificly for VAG PD engines for £100 including VAT and postage. A new PD unit bought outright is about £170 iirc.

Now from what I gather the unit works different from a remap in the fact it dosent interfear with the ECU and instead intercepts the signal sent to the injectors telling them to stay open for longer. This unit also has a built in, fully adjustable MAF compensator in it as well.

Now i've already spoke to tuning diesels, and they say, because its a generic map I have installed, and my MAF is 80,000 miles/8 years old, I should see a noticable increace in performance and driveability ON TOP of the revo remap as I can use the box to fine tune the fuelling (add a bit more) and also correct the signal from my MAF (which being a bosch MAF, is probably well past its best)

Do you think this is just sales patter, or do you think its worth swapping my currently useless box I have lying around for a PD one? Has anyone tried running both a box AND remap at the same time?

Cheers.

Prepare for smoke, injector fault codes and probably misfires also.

Your injectors are already being told to stay open for longer by the code in the remap, that's how it works. The tuning box will intercept that signal, alter it, and tell them to stay open for even longer which will push them out of spec.

Bad idea.

Being as im pretty sure you know far more about this sort of thing than me, I'll give it a miss then and save my £100!

Thanks for the advice.
